Sliverlight is ridiculous, Microsoft just don't understand their users. Why can't things be simple to use? :P

Silverlight probably makes it easier on their side. I can't think of another reason not to use regular media formats (except for keeping non-windows users away)

world domination(a.k.a so everyone is using their product, not someone else)

Believe it or not, but Silverlight isn't a bad product.

If you look at the programmers side, making something in Silverlight can be rather easy, atleast with the "Visual Studio". Also, on the designers side it's easier to integrate your designs. Atleast, from what I've seen, that's the impression I get.

a.k.a the same objective every regular commercial company has.

But it's still pointless having to install extra software for an online video while there are so many better alternatives (from a user point of view).

Microsoft® Silverlight™ is a cross-browser, cross-platform plug-in for delivering the next generation of media experiences and rich interactive applications for the Web.

So no more need of using different ways of embedding to make it work in all browsers, unlike flash. And yep it works on Mac too :P

On the point of easy: it is still fairly new so ppl will have to learn, and who said flash is easy?

I've personally found that silverlight videos load smoother than flash videos, in both Vista and XP Pro running IE7 and Firefox. It's a new platform, it's going to take getting used to. I'm no coder, but rather a user of flash and silverlight. Flash is what millions of users are used to, so of course with change comes time .

If only silverlight would correctly detect that I have the freaking thing installed when I use FF, it would be completely awesome. :)
Then again, it is an "alpha" :)

I only found it difficult to use because installing it was a traumatic process :P. I want a click and to be done; not a long waiting process and endless pages of instructions and having to restart constantly.

It shouldn't be hard at all, you run the installer, accept the user agreement, it shows you the percentage it's at, and it's done. You don't even have to restart your browser :S.

Plus it is delivered via Windows update :)

So only people who will have an issue is people who don't Use M$.

You do if it's Firefox, and the installation takes ages imo.
