Contact Problem - Need Urgent Help by TheDarkLordSeth on 03-09-2008 at 07:03 PM

I'm not sure if this is the right place but here it goes:

A friend of mine deleted me on msn but did not blocked. Later on when she tried to add again it didn't work. Anyone have any ideas about this? Or there is an other forum about msn messenger that I can ask this question?

Get your friend to delete their contacts cache and then try adding you.

quote:
My Computer. Tools > Folder Options > View tab > Show hidden files and folders

Then delete the following folders:

C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Contacts
C:\Documents and Settings\<user name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

Wouldn't that make every other person on her contact list to be deleted?

No, it's just useless stored information on your computer. :) Safe to delete.

A store for frequently-used data or files. Data can be accessed from a cache more quickly than from its original source.
Contacts are saved on a server (not your PC), and the only way to remove them is in WLM itself.

What exactly did you mean by "it didn't work"...

Because:

mind you that if someone has simply deleted you from the contact list, and later they add you again, you will not recieve the "x wants to add you" dialog box. This because you still have that contact and you already have confirmed that the contact can "see" you.

All the above goes if you didn't deleted the contact in your list.

;)

How about she deleted me and then while I can see her online in my list and send messages to her but she sees me offline in her list.

So "adding" you back to her list WAS successfull. Otherwise she wouldn't even "see" your name in her list (no matter what status).

Only she doesn't see your real status properly. This sounds more like a common issue/bug which pops up from time to time....

So, this is different than "adding me back didn't worked". ;)

Anyways, the possible (=not garantueed it will be fixed) solution is indeed what chris4 suggested. Try to remove the contacts cache (after you've completely exited Messenger of course).

A.k.a. it doesn't work.

@Chris4

What if she sees me offline and only my e-mail address even when she's on a different computer?

Then.. I'm not sure.

All I can suggest is that you and her both delete each other (make sure you tick to delete from Hotmail contacts too) and try different variations of adding eachother (you add her, she adds you..). It should work in the end.

Also make sure both of you have each other on your allow list, which is in Tools > Options > Privacy. That could be the problem.

If still having problems... could both try unticking the 'Only people in my Allow List can see my status and send me messages' temporarily in Privacy.
