IE6 Issue by YourNeibour on 03-11-2008 at 02:33 AM

I'm running windows XP with SP1 and I'm having an issue with IE crashes all the time and firefox is fine.  I've cleared the cash, temp files and history...I'm also cleaned it with spybot programs.  What else can I try.  Can I try uninstalling and re-installing IE?

he can't install IE7... IE7 can only be installed on SP2 and above.

I would suggest u to install Service Pack 2 (if urgent) and install IE7. Otherwise use Firefox, or wait till Service Pack 3 final comes out then install it.

What if I uninstall IE from windows and then re-install it would that solve the issue?

you can't. why not just install SP2 and IE7?

Just trying to figure out the quickest way of doing it, with less amount of work.  My dad is in real estate and he needs a computer so thought maybe if i uninstall IE6 and re-install it that may work.

Well, you can remove IE from windows. You don't ever want to though. It's some sort of hack and IIRC something else in Windows stops working. If you can't upgrade to IE7 and don't want to try FF/Opera/Netscape you can either download Avant or Maxthon (Both use IE to browse and may work quite well for you) or possibly even downgrade (if it lets you) to IE 5.5 (and if you want try, IE 6 again)

EDIT: That site works perfectly fine in FF and Netscape

The site that "doesn't work" is the website messing up or is there code on the page to only allow IE? If it doesn't mess up use firefox and fake that your using IE. But then why would the block it?

Just a suggestion.... :P

seems to do neither. but here's an idea -- why not just install IE7 instead of making your parents use firefox?
