User's local time by andrewdodd13 on 03-16-2008 at 11:36 PM

I just had a brain wave reading shawnz post. I was like "What's he doing drunk at 9.30pm?" and then I realised that it probably wasn't 9.30pm where he was. (Actually it was 1.30pm, and then I realised he might've just been spamming...)

Anyway, the point is, it'd be nice to know what a user's local time is - for counties such as Canada and the US the country isn't always enough to know this.

Of course, this would only work if the user had set their localtime properly...

It's a great idea, that's already implemented in the profile. That's where it should stay.

How about showing it when mouseovering their flag? :o

EDIT: Local time of the post ofc.

Not to bad of an idea, but i do not think it is necessary to find out the time of a user who has posted in my opinion :S

hm could write a greasemonkey script for this, wouldn't be too hard to do

- grab post date
- xmlhttp the profile -> get the users local time -> compare, work out time difference (and cache)
- add the local time to the post

ill see if i can quickly make it tomorrow when i get some spare time

This is why I thought it'd be easier to implement server-side: Several details of the user are already presented in this area, it's (assuming that local time is stored in the same table) a simple case of adding that field to the query. :)

I'm not using GreaseMonkey at the moment, doesn't want to work with my install of Fx3b4. :( (But I know it's compatible, it's perhaps local data or something similar)

IMO that info isn't useful enough to be displayed all the time. :p
