More than 300 views to turn red.. by Quantum on 03-17-2008 at 04:45 PM

Well most members know if a thread icon ([Image: newfolder.gif]) turns red ([Image: newhotfolder.gif]) it means the thread has 30+ replies or 300+ views. Well i was viewing the latest posts and i noticed that it turns like that very easily and most (but not all) normal questions get up to 300+ views.

The almost every GCC and t&t is red and most other forums are red too. I was thinking if it was raised higher it would not make all the thread "hot", "popular" or what ever.

Opinions?

Does it really matter?

Well if there all turning red there's no point in having blue.

They aren't all red. Did you even look at either of the boards? I only see ~50% of them in red.

Besides, why fix it if it isn't broken? Can you please stop with all your suggestion threads now? If it needed to be changed, it would already have been done.

Thanks krissy, for another useless suggestion.

lastest post page 17 out of 50 are red (34%) so not really that high, specially if you take GCC % t&t out, it drops down to 24%. as other have said fix something that isn't broke ?

Not necessarily... sometimes stuff doesn't get done until someone brings it up. :p

That number hasn't been changed in years, and the board is busier now, so it might make sense to increase it a bit.

Of all the threads in the database, 72% have 300+ views. However, the percentage is much lower (17%-22%) if you only count threads started in the last month or two.

Thanks. I just seen on the latest post that at least 80% was read and when i looked in GCC they were mostly red.

IMO it should be increased a bit. Do I care? No. Why do I want it changed? The only reason its there imo is for statistics. I like my stats. This is just one more stat. So imo it should be increased considering that the activity has increased quite a bit since the old days when the 30/300 requirements were made (in mybb itself iirc).
Considering that this forum is a lot busier now than it was when we started off with myBB, a change to 50/500 wouldn't be all that bad.
Or better yet, WDZ should run a query to find the average posts per thread and views per thread stats and their standard deviation so he can find the numbers so that only the top 10~15% of threads would be marked as "hot" :)

That seems like a fair way to do it imo. And by fair I mean an accurate way :P

Isn't it a good thing to have the blue so at a quick glance we can tell the difference between a new thread and one that has been recently bumped (or spammed)?  This is a support forum remember and if there are blue ones then it means there hasn't been much help given more than likely.  I personally think it is perfect the way that it is.
