YDL on PS3 by Reaper on 04-01-2008 at 04:14 PM

I'm downloading Yellow Dog Linux for my PS3 at the moment. Can anyone who has done this recommend any good apps to run on it. I know I can get VLC and firefox, but I'm looking for emulators like the SNES or something like that.
Also, I would like to know what people think about linux on their PS3's

How come you chose Ubuntu over YDL?

I don't have a hdtv at school. And you have to do loads of messing around with YDL ot get it to work on a sdtv. :)

noooooooo

why ruin your PS3 with that?!

you don't need firefox, there's a browser on the PS3....and it can play divx, avi and flv files and there's plenty of free converters so you don't need VLC

and a SNES emulator?!   does superb HD gaming like CoD4, GT5 Prologue, Assassin's Creed, Heavenly Sword, etc, etc just not do it for you and some 32bit 15 year old Super Mario Bros be more up your street?!

PS3 = Ultimately Cool

PS3 + Linux = Ultimately Geeky

No money to buy CoD4 and GT5 Pro. Assassins is boring and Heavenly Sword is too short.
The SNES Mario games are classic, as well as other SNES games.

If you think Assassin's is boring, then trade it in :P.....GT5 Prologue is only £19.99.....if you don't have that much to your name, then you should cash in the PS3 entirely, lol

Whether the Mario games are classic or not, it's retarded to play them on a PS3......it's like buying a 42inch plasma HDTV and plugging a VCR into it and playing an old film recorded off the TV on it

I got the special edition of Assassins for free, I'm not gonna trade it :P. I have loads of games, but I've completed them all. I even bought a Dual Shock to make it more interesting. I only really play Tekken Online

keeping a high turn over of games and trading them in is the best way to make the most of ur money.

I've owned 17 game so far (since September). right now I've only got 5 of them....4 of which are long-term games (FIFA, etc that won't be traded in until the next one comes out)....by trading in i've got both GT5 Prologue and GTA4 for free....I haven't paid full price for any of my games cos of trade-ins

i've got a DuakShock3 on the way too....can't wait
RE: YDL on PS3 by Reaper on 04-01-2008 at 08:43 PM

I'm gonna keep my games. Sentimental value and cash value later on, especially the special editions.
You play Tekken Online by any chance?

DS3 is cool. Just like DS2 though.

they won't have cash value later on if you hold onto them.....you get best cash value straight away.....that's the mistake I made with my PS2 holding onto games for "sentimental value", etc, etc....ended up only getting peanuts (and i mean PEANUTS) for some of them

i'm not into tekken, i prefer games with a higher level of intellectual stimulation than button bashing, haha.

DS3 being just like DS2 is cool......i miss the vibration, it doesn't seem right without it

Hmm, well I never trade games in. Tekken takes a mass of skill. Button bashers suck :(

Agreed, playing Tekken (especially on difficulty Hard>) can take alot of skill, eg. knowing when to block, knowing good combos that are hard to block but have good damage etc...
