I haven't done this exactly, but I find that if you install xvncviewer you can simply run VNC Viewer on Windows.

If you want to actually launch programs on Windows and put them onto that X Server, you could install them with Cygwin and use
DISPLAY=xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx:y <program name>
where x is your IP and y the display number (probably 0).

if all you need is a web browser, just run lynx or links in PuTTY

wait.. why do you need to open a web browser on the server to install vb?

yes because the link is activated via a java applet to stop unauthorised people downloading it

and i don't just need a web browser that would download it from the server to my computer without saving it on the server

so... why not download it on your computer, and then upload the files to your server? ¬¬

cos i wanted to download them cos my download speed is slow means the files get sent through a slow connection and back up from a slow connection but i've done it now anyway
