Here is what happen:

Then

Anyone has any idea of what this may be?

Using Windows Vista Ultimate, without SP1.
2Gb ram total, Virtual machine set to 1GB, but also tried with 800mb
Two VirtualHds of 8Gb each, and the real as a total of 250Gb (in 3 partitions)

Edit; already tried the noreplace-paravirt thingy

I've solved my problem. I downloaded the Fedora live CD and got the same squashfs errors. After searching the WEB again for problems with squashfs I came across a reference to DMA. By supplying the boot time option:

ide=nodma

I got both the Ubuntu and Fedora live CDs to boot.

Thank you for you help.

that might have helped but meh youve got it now =p. if you get any more problems let me know.

It hasn't really worked! =C
I said it was working fine because it started loading... but it's already been a pretty long time it is loding! And now it came to this screen:

but that doesnt look like an error to me, it just looks like X has died or didnt start. ill "install" it on a virtual desktop and see if there's anything you might be able to do.

you say  this is just loading the CD, and youre not trying to install it or anything when its messing up?

RE: Ubuntu 8.04 not booting up on VirtualBox 1.6 by blessedguy on 05-29-2008 at 06:21 PM

Well, this is what i do:
1.Open m VirtualBox and then choose the ubuntu VM
2.It is loading from the official .iso file, from ubuntu servers
3.Start loading, as a live cd would.
4.The orange bar goes >> and << and >>..... then it starts filling in, like >>>>
5.When it fills, it shows a Loading... please wait message, the shows up this screen:

Ok, i managed to printscreen the message that appears befor that screen.
Here it goes:

ill come back. im digging.
try a memory test (this tends to take a while IIRC) check the cd for defects too(seems obvious but a lot of people dont do it and then realise after much faffing about)  and, if everything is ok, loading in safe graphics mode.

there's too many things you could try and do as i dont know even roughly what is causing it.

im assuming you have msn. ill pm you with my address.

edit: ill keep searching for info on squashfs too.

memory test: running
check cd for errors: first thing i tried... I've already "lost" my hd two times earlier (when i tried to rly install 7.10, the cd was with some sort of error... and the partitioner erased my whole hd... glad it was brand new, just had to format). The Cd/mage is alright.
I'll add you to msn, see you later

ive said to him, he could get feisty, instll that, then upgrade to heron via the synaptic package manager if he likes/wants heron that much, otherwise go with gutsy. its only 6 months old after all :P

Get VMWare Server Edition and see if it brings up the same errors

But isn't it used to virtualize SERVERS?
I'm using the desktop .iso

The only reason why i recommended that was that the Server edition is the only free edition that allows you to make and run VM Machines. And the server edition is good for home use/desktop use. Just when u start it you have to choose local host.
