New Icon Under Disply Picture by SimonHodgkiss on 06-13-2008 at 02:13 PM

Has anyone noticed the new Icon that has appeared under the Display pictures along side the web cam icon??

Anyone know what it is ? or what it does?

Thanks
Simon

Can you post a picture to let us know how the icon looks so we can answer to your question?

He might be talking about this, quite a few people seem to be having the same problem. Probably something temporary related to the MSN servers.
(EDIT: Even people without skins applied)

EDIT: I just opened up a random conversation now and now I have it too :o

Well, I think I have seen this in the Messenger's resources. It must be something that Microsoft knew about and has it in case something happens.

RE: New Icon Under Disply Picture by SimonHodgkiss on 06-13-2008 at 02:41 PM

What does it do?
What does it mean?

RE: New Icon Under Disply Picture by Volv on 06-13-2008 at 02:46 PM

I've checked the resource and the most likely culprit is:

code:
<HttpImage id=atom(NetworkIcon) visible=false Flip=false/>
HttpImages allow you to insert images from a URL (possibly limited to PNGs?) and this particular one is not visible by default. Most likely it has been programmatically coded in to the actual application and Microsoft have pressed their giant Red button at their HQ which activates it and gives your PC legs for the purpose of slaughtering you whilst you sleep.
Perhaps the URL of the image is localised (for example, to US users only) and is hence only showing properly to some people whilst to others it is showing that blank container.
Usually the id parameter is pseudo-english and can be interpreted, so who knows what 'NetworkIcon' means, it could of course merely be referring to the fact that it's obtaining the icon from a network as opposed to internal resources.

I have it too now. Though, I noticed it appears for several contacts only

RE: New Icon Under Disply Picture by SimonHodgkiss on 06-13-2008 at 02:52 PM

Its very strange, It seems to only do it for people who have a web cam for me... I think.

RE: New Icon Under Disply Picture by Basilis on 06-13-2008 at 02:55 PM

Not exactly. I tried with friends that have it and they don't have a web cam. Seems like it something random

RE: New Icon Under Disply Picture by Courtzz on 06-13-2008 at 02:57 PM

hmm is there anything to do to make it go away :P and yer mine just does it with any random people

The office icon would usually mean the user is on federated access (aka Office Communicator via Live Communications Server or Office Communications Server).

The Yahoo icon for Yahoo IM contacts will show up there too.

It showing up for random users is just a server screw-up as already said but I at least I heard through the grapevine this morning that it was "being looked into" (as always)

Sounds interesting... Hope fully it gets sorted soon.

So this isn't some sort of weird virus or anything is it?

RE: New Icon Under Disply Picture by Basilis on 06-13-2008 at 06:07 PM

No. It is just some thing Microsoft has put on. We don't know what exactly it is but certainly it is not virus so don't worry! :)

Okay, Thanks :)

Messenger says:
Inside Windows Live Messenger:: A weird white box or Office logo.
