I want a device by segosa on 06-24-2008 at 08:16 PM

I want a device that:

  • has wifi support, and comes with a browser
  • can play videos; preferably without the need to convert to another format beforehand (codecs for xvid built-in would be good, or with the ability to install codecs at least)
  • can play music, randomise, and allow you to save different playlists (and be able to select a playlist to play)
  • can connect to your computer and appear as a drive allowing you to copy the music/videos like that (i.e. no iTunes)
  • is possible to extend i.e. there's an SDK allowing others to write programs for it
  • looks pretty (i.e. no windows mobile)

Any ideas?

edit: forgot to mention, pocket-sized!

an iphone has all of those functions, except the video playback.. it does need conversion though.

That's a pretty vague description. Most PDAs and smarthpones will fit.

Xperia isn't out, right? Looks awesome.

VLC is developing a player that read many different formats, so in the future (or now, I don't know if it's been released already) you'll be able to watch anything.

Well fine, anything non windows mobile. The point is: the first four things are pretty much standard on PDAs and highend smartphones, and "Looks pretty" is a matter of personal taste.

except for the itunes stuff, it does have everything you ask for, and is only $199, for the 8GB model, and the SDK for the new 2.0 version is awsome

The 705 is a little to un-practical. It doesnt look it in the screens, but its a monstah! The 605 is portable. Its a standered handheld device size, while the 705 is 13"....

The archos 605, has all of them features and a few more.... Its a fairly amazing little device.

Im with voldemort. besides my personal opinion is that blackberries and horrable. EEEPC is the best way to go.

but you might feel that blackberries are easy for you and have everything you need. because in the end it is not me or any other member using it. its you.


eeepc's are cheap as chips on ebay! just add all eeeps's to your watching list. then use bidding assistant and it will bid them all one by one till you win one at the price you want. i got one for $126 including postage !! :)
