Why Cant Firefox Include Flash? by Pyro on 07-06-2008 at 09:52 AM
Okay so most of us here either use Firefox or have used it before. and most of us know anything is better than IE.
Anyways, why is it that whenever you download Firefox you cant automatically download many components or even flash\shockwave. And it certainly could come with flash or other components already installed?
Also note to the developers of firefox. put suggestions for ie as shitboxie and hackmeimn00b etc etc

a) Licensing, bundling firefox with such components would create havoc in the land of GNU and other groups / persons that doesn't want to download applications with bundled software.
b) There is already a wizard for installing those components, so you can't say that they haven't tried to make it as smooth as possible. In my opinion, it is better than bundling it as it gives the user the option to say yes or no. (Yes, some of the more core components have to be downloaded manually. I'm sure a user can live with that, even though it might be hard.)
c) We're not Mozilla. Suggestions don't go to us.

WHy can't they make 2 applications? One of them with nothing included and one with flash or thing users usually install anyway.

Because it's fine the way it is.

Ill put it simply.
Firefox=Opersource.
Plugins=Properitery.
Opensource does not like Properitery. As well as, things get updated as needed to the latest version when doing it this method, meaning less for the Mozila Dev's, and more updates on Firefox for you!
