Hello to everyone,

Its been a while since I have released anything and people are asking what exactly I am up to.

Well asides from working my jobs and living life I have been working on a set of 3 skins which I will launch at some point in the near future (hey don't ask me when, these things can't be rushed)

Now as most of you know the skinning contest is coming (apparently in August so that's not much time away). As most of you may or may not know I will not be entering the contest because of my level of skill and the work I do so it will all be pretty interesting to see who wins.

But one question that has come up is that if I was allowed to enter what skin would I be entering. Well the designer series represents the set of 3 skins which I would have entered if given the chance to.

So I thought for a bit of fun and also to show you guys what I have been up to for the past month or so that I would post my latest skin creation.

This is one of the skins you all would have been up against if I was entering

So I present the first skin in the designer series:

Phunk'n


Phunk'n is a skin for those who like compact and sleek skins. It has been designed so that it blends with a vast majority of visual styles. Additionally the skin colorizes to perfection.

Phunk'n is also based on a fresh new code base and features smooth fade transitions for the majority of the messenger UI. When combined with the Messenger Plus transparency feature (as pictured) it really does stand out. One of the best things about the skin is how small in size you can make it, its really awesome to have something so small and compact sometimes

and to answer the first question some of you may have:

Yes it comes in a white version and yes it is as sleek as the black version.

The best part about the skin is that what is shown here is only the tip of the iceberg and there is a lot more going on in the skin than what it looks like.

And this is just the first skin in the designer series so remember there are another two skins where this one came from. Hmm aren't you glad I can't enter the contest

Anyway be on the lookout because I don't plan to keep these skins unreleased for too long!

This skin really rocks. Simple and stylish. One thing I noticed is that this skin doesn't have the usual button you have below the MinMaxClose buttons. Anyway, I can't wait to see the other two.

You could release all 3 skins after the skinning contest or with the contest results. Then Patchou could release a special version in which there will be your skins and the winners of the contest like it has been done with the scripting contest.

there is no eta on the skin, to be honest I haven't got the slightest clue how long it's going to take. With this set of skins I am spending time really thinking stuff out and making sure things fit together really well. I'm also playing with a few new techniques just to see what else I can do to Messenger.

Plus I want to launch 3 skins at once so even when it is done you won't be seeing it until the other two are done

Like I said its not the sorta of thing I want to rush.

I think Patchou should implement a feature which would allow the skinner to put some transparency in some windows. I mean, you can select the color you think your skin looks more beautiful. The same way you should be able to select the percent of transparency of windows that would make your skin look sexier.

Hello Willz,

I have to say... You not only make GREAT skins...

The way you present/announce your skins... WOW, you also know how to make the community WANT them...

Please don't wait too long with the release... please, please....

I'm not a big skin user (actually I don't use skins at all. They all look 'too much'), but this again looks very slick. Different, yet very reconizeable...

hmm I'm actually contemplating on releasing this thing as soon as its done. I mean I could wait until the other two skins are done but if they go at the rate this one has gone that could be a while I'll make up my mind once I think out the other two a bit more and get an idea of how long they could take,

I am liking this skin so much that I am thinking of doing some extra content for it. I was thinking a Messenger Discovery alert skin (which I've sorta already done) and possibly a Cover Art Display skin so that you can have a music player that matches it. What do people think about that? Would people actually use it if I made it?

I'll be using this when it comes out.

About the release of Phunk'n. Even if you finish it before the contest, it would be the best to release it when the contest ends. But I think that you could complete all 3 skins and release them together as you had planned as big things need time. Like Plus! 4.50 which took 6 months to be complete but was the best Plus! release ever, these 3 skins would certainly make an impact if they were released together introducing new features and other great things we expect from you. But the decision is yours.

Yeah Lou this is the first time I am hearing about this judge thing. Like yeah I offered to be a judge when he announced the contest, but it wasn't actually ever confirmed nor given the green light. At this point its still anyone's guess as to how a winner is going to be decided.

Or maybe I did miss something as well, maybe I wasn't paying attention at some point. Who knows.

I can kinda see how it's fair to encourage others and give them a reasonable chance of winning, but I haven't heard of excluding a contestant because they are too good

Off topic, but I think most people already assume that he is going to be a judge... kind of obvious/natural I think. Would be dissapointing when he isn't

I forgot to update this thread when I posted a new preview over at designevolved. Oh well here it is for those that didn't catch it.

Phunk'n is coming in two editions rather than the one package due to the restrictions that Messenger Plus skins have.

Phunk'n - Infusco for black and Phunk'n - Niveus for white.

The white one looks impressive and sexy too! I prefer the Infusco though. Hey, you invented nice names!
