Password for preferences by JANIPOPS on 07-23-2008 at 09:52 PM

For some reason I cannot get into my preferences on the laptop because it is now asking for a password which I never set up!! I can get into my preferences on the main pc without a password.

Does this mean that either:
a. Someone has set up a password on my account only on the laptop
b. My computer has been hacked and someone has set up a password

Does messenger plus preferences only work on the computer you are working on, so you can have a password on one computer and not one on another?

Also I have uninstalled and reinstalled messenger plus to try and resolve the problem but it isn't working, I just cannot find a password that is working on the laptop.

Your help would be much appreciated...before I have to totally uninstall plus on the laptop or set up a completely new windows live Id

I would say option a is the most plausible.

Messenger Plus! Preferences are local to the computer (and account) you are working on. You can read CookieRevised's reply to Preferences Password for instructions on how to remove the password protection.

Hi thanks for the reply, I can get as far as preferences under my email address but don't have UDataP at preferences I have two options:

customNotifs
of
Quicktexts

have I gone to the right place and where do I go from here?
thanks so much :)

Just to clarify, I clicked on preferences and have a list of things with blue icons next to them...but no UDataP...so can't change it's value to 0...I have changed some which relate to chatlogs from 1 to 0, hope this helps but still can't find this file....can anybody enlighten me further??:o

If you are using Messenger Plus! Live (which I'm assuming you are) you need to follow the instructions in the second part of the post ;)

Just another little question lol, from the codes that were there would I be able to work out what the password was that had been set on my preferences?^o)

No, the password is stored as a hash and can not be decrypted.
