STOP: c000021a ERROR on Vista by tg11 on 08-24-2008 at 09:44 AM

Hi, my acer laptop has started coming up with a 'STOP: c000021a' message since it configured windows updates on startup.  The system runs Vista.
I cannot get past the blue screen to login to my computer. Can anybody help?

Um... you might have to restart your comp. Press F11 right after you start your computer at the loading black screen. or maybe it's F10. there you will find system restore. good luck :)

According to a search, a MS tech has documented this as being due to a hotfix (in particular HotFix: 890859)

This website gives details on how to remove these hotfixes using the recovery panel. This should hopefully then allow you to login after removing the above mentioned HotFix/Update

that update is for windows 2000/xp only. also, that website is only for xp as well.

Epic Fail. Didn't notice, but I would have thought most of the STOP error numbers would remain the same...

they are, but that error isn't caused by the update, it's caused by something the update does. and that's an xp-only update...
