How do i... by lrac522 on 08-31-2008 at 04:00 PM

I have an unlocked iphone with firmware 1.1.4 and need to upgrade to 2.0. Is there a free unlock site to jailbreak after the upgrade, if so, what is the link. Thanx. Hi all...:wave:

I dont know what Ipab was getting at, but do you know anybody that would let you use their mac?

There are many ways to jailbreak 2.0, i find the easiest to be winPwn. Check out the forums at http://ipodtouchfans.com for detailed instrusctions on how to do it.

Why is everyone talking about macs? You can jailbreak an iphone just as easy on a windows machine

RE: How do i... by NiteMare on 09-01-2008 at 12:21 AM

since jailbreaking is illigal, isn't this thread agenst the rules?

Apparently someone told me its not illegal since you payed for the device, its yours to do what you want. You obviously go againts apples terms, and violate your warranty, but if you just restore, all signs of the jailbreak go:P
RE: How do i... by Th3rmal on 09-01-2008 at 11:36 AM

with a name like "jail-break", it sounds pretty illegal :P ,  although Jimbo makes a nice point there

RE: How do i... by Jarrod on 09-01-2008 at 12:51 PM

i don't think jail-braking is illegal, but i'm sure it voids your warranty, my friend has an iphone, and he normally knows this stuff so i'll ask him
but IIRC you're better off jbing it then upgrading it as it's harder to jb after an upgrade, i think i remember some software which downgrades your firmware, jb's your iphone then downloads the latest one off the net and flashes it for you, i'll see if he remembers where to get it

RE: How do i... by vaccination on 09-01-2008 at 01:33 PM

Jailbreaking is just against the terms and conditions and voids warranty. It's easy to remove traces of jailbreaking and restore to default if you do happen to need to send it in to the shop though so.

My iphone is already jail broken with firmware 1.4.1, i tried upgrading to ver 2.0 and the phone is now locked saying that the sim is not recognised and needs the correct sim to register. Could you educate me on some issues here, is it that the phone is successfully upgraded to 2.0 and only needs unlocking or needs jail breaking again because I am totally ignorant to that term. Thank you all for your kind support. Hi all...:wave::(

yes your phone has been upgraded, which "re-locked" it to the original network that sold it to you, you would need to have it unlocked again

You can unlock iphones using many programs available on the internet. Winpwn being one of them!!

The Run Down by ipab on 09-02-2008 at 04:35 AM

Well I asked if you owned a mac to see what software to suggest... aparrently you people aren't really too up on the whole iPhone/iPod Touch scene :P...

For the iPhone/iPod Touch firmware version 2.0 (1.2) there are currently 2 ways to jailbreak/unlock a first gen iPhone. Both are made possible by the iPhone Dev-Team.

Route 1:
WinPwn

Route 2:
QuickPwn

Both have their advantages and disadvantages, but as far as a first gen phone goes, unless you want to resize your apple OS partition to greater than 500 MB, I would say that QuickPwn is probably the best method for you.

To get QuickPwn:

http://xs1.iphwn.org/releases/QuickPwnGUI120.zip

One note though, to use QuickPwn, you have to upgrade to the latest version of the iPhone firmware (2.0.2). The other thing is that when you upgrade, all your data is essentially going to be lost (nature of the upgrade from 1.x to 2.x). So if you want to backup your music that you don't have on your computer anymore I would suggest a program called CopyTrans. So far I have yet to come across free alternatives for backing up the music library for the iPod Touch/iPhone.

One final note is that, for future reference, for people who own a second generation iPhone (iPhone 3G), if you want to be able to unlock your phone one day, QuickPwn is not the method for you since this firmware introduces a new baseband, as far as unlocking your phone goes, a jailbreak can be reversed, but a baseband update cannot be (so far), so when it comes time for unlocking (if or when it does come that is), you might run into problems. So, if you aren't on 2.0.1 yet and want to upgrade to the latest firmware and jailbreak it, then you are better of going through WinPwn and going through the advanced options and having it not install the latest baseband update.

iPod Touch owners have it easy, they don't have to worry about anything to do with basebands and so on. Since all they are concerned about is Jailbreak.

As far as tutorials go, there really is no need for them. The way the software is made, it is self explanatory, and it really will walk you through ever step of the way. If you think that your phone is stuck because you see the spinner, it really isn't, just let it be and let it take its time.

Hope this clears up any confusion on how/what to do to upgrade / jailbreak an iPhone / iPod Touch.

I used this link to get it unlocked to firmware 2.0.2 without any knowledge of jail breaking and unlocking a phone and there were no problems. Thanks to you all... (Y) Hi all...:wave:
