It's not gonna happen... if there was any danger whatsoever, they wouldn't go ahead with the experiment.

Very interesting article, I guess we'll find out in 9 days 
. The experiment sounds very dangerous, however the results would be phenominal to see what the big boom was like.

It was on CNN, but they didn't go into detail about it. They just mentioned that CERN was fighting to continue with the project. This experiment is different from all the "myths" about the world ending.

and then two posts later you say "we obvs won't die"
In truth no-one will know for sure until it takes place....however I highly doubt that an experiment like that could have such catastrophic consequences as is being sensationalised by the media
And The Sun of all places....they're pretty much the forefront of media sensationalisation!

The whole LHC experiment reminds me of the Half-Life 1 opening scene. Maybe we'll have aliens on earth in 9 days .

That's exactly what I was thinking Cookie. They've been experimenting with creating black holes in controlled environments for years, if you pick up a New Scientist magazine (yes I went through that phase), then you'll see what I mean. The experiments that they do create the black hole for a few seconds and then it just implodes, but the black hole is so tiny the only thing it could suck is Stigmata's genitals.

There's no collisions at all yet, they're just testing that the protons are following the correct trajectory.
