Funky colours bug. by laurenz on 09-20-2008 at 10:07 AM

I've been using Messenger Plus! Live for quite some time now, but recently WLM 9 beta 2 got released.
I searched on the website of msgplus and it said it was 9.0 compatible. So I downloaded and installed WLM9 but to my surprise plus didn't work at all!
I reinstalled WLM8.5 but now all the Msgplus related windows get funny colours!

Obviously I tried reinstalling and it worked for a minute but then it got all funky again.

Here's a picture:

I use Windows Vista Ultimate SP1 64-bit. My computer is just 2 weeks old and I have never experienced any similar graphic bugs (except this one).

I hope someone can help!

home.scarlet.be/~tsf54471/msn/delete_msn_wlm.reg
Run that, and possibly reinstall Plus! All should be fine.

EDIT: WARNING: This deletes all your settings for WLM, however keep in mind these settings can be easily set again.

The file deletes all your MSN Messenger / Windows Live related registry/settings, and while it's not recommended at all, it can of little help to laurenz :S

And laurenz, have you tried to change your Messenger theme color (and reopen the preferences) and see how such weird problem looked like with other colors?

I faced the same bug (I installed 9.0 and I had renamed the folder of 8.5 so I had them both) but after I changed color to red, it was fixed and it didn't occur again. Now I have uninstalled 9.0 so I don't think it will appear again.

Messenger Plus! supports an earlier build of WLM 9

The latest build 9.14 is not compatible yet. Read Will Plus! be updated to work with the new 9 build? for more info

I had this problem myself, and running Cookie's reg file is what fixed it. It seems that WLM 9 overrides WLM 8.5's settings, and when MP!L (as well as its installer) goes to check in the registry for WLM's existance, these entries added by WLM 9 make the colours obscure.

Atleast you could have added a warning that it resets all your settings...

Changing the colour of WLM also fixed it. I never knew that MSG plus! adapted it's colour like WLM!

If you have this problem (caused by installed Messenger 9 and reinstalling Messenger 8), jut change the color in Messenger to whatever and change it back to your own color, that will sove it.
