Maybe a problem with the server?

I found this after searching on Google. It seems more people have the same problem.

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by Spunky on 09-22-2008 at 09:37 PM

I had trouble with WLM 9.0 BETA and had to make a new Windows Vista Account to fix it =/

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 09-22-2008 at 10:36 PM

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by Tardz on 09-24-2008 at 01:48 PM

I have the same problem with one of my accounts (to bad it's my main account)
I've done some research and i found out it's because of the contact list data that's in the Live ID.

My account stopped working when i created a group and deleted it right after it, the next time i logged in i got this error, every other wlm build works on this account except the new one (also the previous official wlm 9 beta and the internally leaked one).

There are more and more people with the same issue, it's not computer related in any way, only related with the new messenger and the LiveID (maybe the use of an older msn protocol on this build will work to log in).

But for now we have to wait until Microsoft will fix this problem, but it's just some kind of corruption with the LiveID that affects the new wlm 9 beta.

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 09-24-2008 at 09:40 PM

yeah i found that out, i was playing around with the groups and favorites so that might have been why..i hope i get it fix before i get the new MPL! beta :D

The only one who can fix it is Microsoft itself.
You can still use your other account for testing (since the messenger is a beta, and the MP!L build is also a beta, it should only be used for testing anyways :P ).
Maybe deleting the whole contact list would work, but i don't think anyone wants to do that with their primary LiveID 8-) :P.

We'll just have to wait.(Y)
RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 09-24-2008 at 10:00 PM

yeah i wont dare do that lol.. its sad i see this error everywhere they should be aware of it by now.

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by ShawnZ on 09-24-2008 at 10:03 PM

At the moment, absolutely nothing.
We'll just have to wait until Microsoft haves a solution for this (because it's Live ID related)
RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by Sildor on 09-26-2008 at 04:53 PM

But there is the possibility that do not put in place? And leave it like that? Adjusted with a new version? Since it is not possible to uninstall it.

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 09-26-2008 at 07:19 PM

i tried unistall 9 and install 8.5 worked fine, tried on another pc with WLM 9 beta and still no luck, so im just goin to unistall 9 and go back to 8.5

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by Sildor on 09-27-2008 at 06:38 AM

But how did you uninstall?

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 09-27-2008 at 09:07 AM

in the control panel> Add/Remove programs there is "Windows Live Beta (all programs)"

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by Sildor on 09-27-2008 at 11:40 AM

By doing so I will not remove anything.

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 09-27-2008 at 04:42 PM

thats how i removed WLM beta, on the top uncheck WLM and click Continue(its kind of confusing how they make you uninstall but it you only have WLM beta installed it should be pretty easy.

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by Tardz on 09-27-2008 at 08:45 PM

The Windows Live Messenger Team is going to fix this problem, i had contact with them and they confirmed it was an issue with the groups.

I got this e-mail:

quote:
Hello Tristan,

My name is Steven; I work for the Windows LIVE Messenger Global Escalation Group.

I understand you are having an issue with connecting to the Beta client, error 81000451.

We have found that this issue is caused after a group is made and deleted/removed in the beta client.

We are currently investigating the issue and we expect to have more information shortly. You can still using the older clients and the WebIM client if you would like to stay in touch with your contacts for the time being.

Thank you for contacting the Windows LIVE Messenger support group.

Steven

So as i said before, we just have to wait :).

The thing that is funny about messenger beta is that I have a virtual machine running the same OS (Windows XP Pro SP2) I can log into my main account on my virtual machine but not on my main machine

What on earth is going on!!??

by the way i've tried logging out of MSN on my virtual machine but it still doesn't work

Please somebody help me!!!:(

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 10-12-2008 at 07:46 PM

this happens to me on all machines running WLM beta. its been while now...and i am losing hope for WLM team. i havent even found a official post from them saying that they are working on it.

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by Wibblewobbles on 10-18-2008 at 05:39 AM

First post! I just joined! Messenger Plus is awesome.

Anyways, it seems Microsoft Knowledge Base has posted up a "solution".

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/958574/en

It didn't help me out, but perhaps it'll be a more successful fix for you out there...

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 10-18-2008 at 04:52 PM

hey welcome and thanks for the link...but right when i read it i knew it wouldn't work, because this issue is not local its on every machine that i try to log in. so is no just my computer its the service it self that wont let me in.

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by lolliepop on 11-11-2008 at 05:32 AM

Some are saying delete all of your contacts but how am I supposed to do that if i can't even log in?

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 11-11-2008 at 06:36 AM

its been over 2 months into the beta and still no solution to this..is sad that not even official WLM blog said anything about it..

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by dbgarza on 11-12-2008 at 07:44 PM

No kidding, I got that error but with me it did worked with deleting the contact cache but now all the offline contacts instead of their msn names they show their e-mails.

on the web messenger the offline contacts do appear with their msn names and even on WLM 8.5 except for a few ones

I really hope microsoft can fix this issue

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by craigster1991 on 11-21-2008 at 03:53 PM

dear everyone, i had this problem too, but i fixed it by deleting all the application data for msn and windows live, there around 4 folders for msn and WLM that contain data, i deleted all of them AFTER uninstalling all versions of msn, then i re-installed the new beta, and then it worked!!
the folders are found in C:/Documents and Setting/YOUR USERNAME/Application Data/
and also
C:/Documents and Setting/YOUR USERNAME/Local Settings/Application Data/
some are in the Microsoft folder, and i think one isnt, just look around and anythig names msn or WLM delete!
i hope this helps your problems,
craigster1991

Hi I'm new to the forums
I had this problem and then found a solution, just thought i'd post it here :D

I'm using XP so things might be different on Vista Machines.

For this to work, you will need to make Hidden Folders visible, do this by opening any explorer window, ie My Computer, then click Tools > Folder Options... Click the View Tab then check "Show hidden files and folders".

Now make sure Live Messenger is closed (Exit)

Then, navigate to:
C:\Documents and Settings\<Windows User Name>\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft

and delete the Windows Live Contacts folder.

Then all should be good :)

RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by craigster1991 on 12-01-2008 at 05:30 PM

thats the same as the method i posted...

but that's only if the issue was local, my problem persist on every machine I try, so its global, something messed up on the cloud some where.

hmm well you have a really weird problem, it should not be on every machine, as the contact list tree is built in local settings by Windows Live, its designed not to retrieve contacts from a server every time, only to update from it.

I suggest signing in to an older version, on your pc, like 8.5. after un-installing 9. then uninstall 8.5, delete the folders, and re-install 9, then try... if not im sorry i cannot help further
RE: Error code: 81000451 ?? anyone by guanako on 12-01-2008 at 08:17 PM

I been on all that, in fact there is lots of user with the same problem, and the  WLM team is aware of it.

Notice: Sign-in problems for beta users that block a group

Posted by Brian

An issue has been discovered in the current Windows Live Messenger beta that may leave users unable to sign-in.  Only a very small number of users may encounter this issue but wanted to proactively message this to the community.

To avoid the issue yourself, please DO NOT block a group and then leave the group. If you plan to leave a group, please unblock it first. Following this precaution will ensure that you will not be affected by this issue.

We are currently working hard to fix the problem and allow those customers who have been affected to once again sign-in to the Messenger beta.

Thank you for your time and for participating in the beta!  We will post more information about this issue when it becomes available.

Thanks,
Brian
