RE: Windows update doesnt load by ipab on 10-05-2008 at 06:18 PM

pulled from someone else's forum post:

quote:
Note: The following assumes that you have, or have access to the
original Vista 32-bit .iso or can otherwise utilize the file
install.wim contained within the .iso.

1. Place the original Vista .iso on your hard drive.
2. Extract install.wim from the iso.
3. Extract all c:\windows\system32\wu*.* files from install.wim.
4. Place all extracted wu*.* files in their own folder, e.g., C:\wu for
later use.
5. Run Start, All Programs, Accessories. Right click on Command Prompt
and click on Run as administrator.
6. Navigate to your System32 directory.
7. In order to replace current wu*.* files in the System32 directory,
you'll need to first take ownership of each of them as follows:
Run: takeown /f "path and file name" [note: I ran this command for
each of the wu*.* files, one at a time]
then
Run: cacls "path and file name" /G <your username>:F
8. Replace all wu*.* files using those from c:\wu
9. Register each of the original wu*.dlls in System32 - for example
(regsvr32 wuapi.dll)
10. Reboot
11. Place Windows Update in manual mode as a test and run it.

All you're doing is taking ownership of a few files, replacing them and registering the new ones.

And, no, how do you expect replace some files without replacing them?

RE: Windows update doesnt load by ipab on 10-05-2008 at 07:14 PM

Post a 'Hijack This' log on here so that we can analyze what went wrong. IIRC, I worked on a customer's computer that did the exact same thing, it was a long time ago, but I believe Norton was messing with it.

Post your windowsupdate.log also.

It's located at:

%windir%\windowsupdate.log

yeah,, ICQ6.5 Beta is out at the moment.doesnt look much different from ICQ6.0 http://dev.aol.com/icq/ but has a few features like Custom Emotes an Animated Emotes etc in it .. its still a popular program for chinese/japanese people they are also working on skins for it. ( official skins ) i think you can get skins for ICQ6 now but from a independant source

RE: Windows update doesnt load by Thor on 10-08-2008 at 08:42 AM

If you're on Vista, start the command prompt as an administrator and enter:

code:
regsvr32 jscript
regsvr32 vbscript
regsvr32 /i mshtml

If you're on XP just open up the Run dialogue and enter those above.

I havent got the windows vista disk though as my computer came with XP and i just ordered an update disc. Will the vista update disc work?
Also, im on vista SP1 now and the disc is an older version so will that work?
RE: Windows update doesnt load by ChicaRacing on 10-12-2008 at 09:05 PM

If your computer came with XP, did you download vista and install it without an original serial?

If so, then do the same again... there are some sites where you can find the original disk with SP1 cause if you already have it it may not work if you use an older version disk... you can give it a try anyway, but it may be easier if you go for sure :P

No, i ordered an update disc from MESH ( who i bought my computer from) but im wondering if i can sue that disc to repair the installation or not
RE: Windows update doesnt load by ChicaRacing on 10-12-2008 at 09:32 PM

Hmmm there's something i can't understand >.< sorry...

Your computer came with XP, then you ordered the vista disk, you get it and install it, then updated it to SP1 and now you get this problem?

If so, then you should be abble to uninstall the SP1 *-) i mean, is not the same repair the instalation with SP1 and without SP1... it's never the same or at least it never worked for me with xp to repair xp with sp2 with an old disk without sp2 ... but, with vista idk.

I'll tell you something that may help you, when i bought my original license of vista home premium, it cames in a CD and was an old version of vista (without SP1) but the SERIAL was for vista home premium with SP1 so, with it there was a paper with this instructions for the resealler: "In order to install properly the os you should provide the customer with a new image of windows vista home premium sp1 disk" and my provider just ordered again to microsoft the new disk and in a week or so i get the dvd with sp1, i guess your resealler can do the same for you ;) give it a try like that :D it worked for me here where the sun don't shine xD :P

RE: Windows update doesnt load by lizard.boy on 10-20-2008 at 06:36 PM

I'm not sure if this is still relivant, but I know at work we had a problem with new Dell machines running XP not being able to use windows update. The two solutions that came out of it were change the MTU on the network card to a lower value (1492 or 1430 are two that I remember working on different machines) and the second solution was to install Microsoft update instead of using Windows update.

But like I said, I don't know if these fixes are relevant because I haven't had a chance to sit down with Vista yet.
