Msgplus and wlm9 original beta by a104375 on 10-13-2008 at 12:57 AM

Alright as many of you may know microsoft has forced everyone to stop using wlm beta 1 (9.0.1407.1107) which is the only version of wlm9 that works with msgplus now what i did to get around what microsoft did to force people to stop using it is: I changed the version number inside wlm (9.0.1407.1107) to 14.0.5027.908 which is the latest beta version of wlm now what I would like to do is somehow change/remove the version check in msgplus so it will accept v14 and allow me to still use msgplus, if i can do that it msgplus will work because it is the same version that it has always worked with, but no longer works because it doesnt accept the "hacked" version number.

Anyone have any ideas?? if u have a question about what i did just ask.

Remember I am talking about the private beta 9.0.1407.1107 not the new public beta

Yes of course. Its illegal to modify closed-source programs because this is against the EULA / Terms of Use.

Changing open-source software is allowed on the other hand. But because Messenger Plus! isn't opensource you are not allowed to change it.

Even if its your own computer.

Ok i made i post, but deleted it because i didn't carefully read the first post

First get reshack here (if you did not had it already):
http://delphi.icm.edu.pl/ftp/tools/ResHack.zip

Open reshack, in reshack press file -> open and go to select the msnmsgr.exe in your wlm folder.

Go to Version info -> 1 -> 1033.

Now this part is important, ONLY change change the field that i put a red circle on, change it from 9.0.1407 to 14.0.5027.
Now press compile script and go to file -> save, make sure wlm is closed.
This way Msg Plus! still knows it's the old wlm 9, but Microsoft his servers think it's the new wlm.

Here is the screen:

Note: Nothing get's changed/edited with Msg Plus!

I thought even msgplus can modify WLM to use polygamy, apatch also does it, even with skinning you modify WLM.
So i think it's not so against the rules after all, and if it is they are not doing anything about it.

And the purpose of modifying is just that you can sign in again with this build, MS only wants you to upgrade because it's a newer/better build, they don't care if some people still want to use it.

I'm agree with Tardz , they don't care about our prefferences.I wrote them abt this issue but of course they never reply back.AS I HATE THIS VERSION AND I THINK THEY ARE AGAINST OUR OWN PREFERENCES !
It's was nice and good at least if they allow people to choose the option "YES" or "NO" under their preferences, not to FORCE us dowloading the new version. This is also not a rule which has been brooked by them??
We r free to choose what we like i think , not forced to choose what they like...this is called "TIRANY"

Plus! only modifies WLM in memory. It never changes the executables.

You should extract all contents of the zip archive to one folder, if it still doesn't work try some mirrors from this site. :)

Thanks, but the same :( i tried both mirrors

The problem is on your side then, all mirrors work fine here, just make sure you extracted everything properly.
If you don't know how i also don't recommend to modify wlm manually.

Hello,

The discussion of modifying executables and modules for executables is against the forum rules.
