Audio not working by Curtis on 10-31-2008 at 05:24 AM

Alright so like, I recently tried switching power supplies to a different one I had, and it was fried so I switched back.  I also tried switching processors but the other one wouldn't let me boot up so I switched it back.

Anyhow, when I finally got my computer back to normal, the audio did not work at all.  I went through all of the settings, tried rolling back, then updating the drivers, etc.  I tried everything I could think of.  Nothing worked.  I really miss my music.  Is there any way I can get my audio back?  When I open the sound mixer after clicking the speaker icon beside my clock in my task bar, it says there is sound coming out of the speakers, but that's only under the Speakers section.  It should be coming from Winamp too but none of the other volume bars move at all.

reboot in safemode, open device manager look under sound and remove all the sound drivers reboot see if windows picks them up if it does not then go to the driver site for your soundcard or get your cd's out u got with the computer..

also what sound card do u have?  would of helped if u posted that

I don't have a soundcard.  I've already tried removing sound drivers.  I didn't get any cds with my computer because it's custom built by my dad and I.

If you build your own computer you still get the CDs with the drivers on unless it's all 2nd hand. The only things I can think of is you are installing the incorrect drivers, you have not plugged your speakers in correct, you haven't selected the right input in the sound settings or your speakers are just fucked.

Have you tried a different set of speakers? Or maybe plugging one set into the front/back of the PC?

It was working fine, then the other day when I switched some things in my computer and then switched back to the old stuff the sound didn't work.  Yes, I've tried multiple speakers/headphones in all ports.

I just installed Windows 7 yesterday, and it's still not working.  I've tried every port with all of the speakers/headphones I have.

Are you sure you didn't knock anything in your computer, or put something in upside down, when i fiddled with my computer i put a few of the plugs back in upside down and it booted but didn't allow sound.

I'm positive.  All that was changed in my computer was the Power Supply and the CPU.

I've already clearly stated that it's onboard sound.  I've tried drivers over and over again.  Do you read the whole thread or only the most recent post?
