Vista Disk Management. by Quantum on 11-02-2008 at 04:58 PM

I'm using the disk manager and i have 1 100GB HDD Drive. I wanted to make another partition for something but the max it will allow me to shrink is 8GB.

It says "Size of available shrink can be restricted if snapshots and page files are enabled on the volume".

None of them are enabled? What's wrong :S

Have you tried any alternative partitioning software..? I hate the way Disk Management shrinks and creates partitions. Someone mentioned a free alternative in the thread Eddie made. It's worth a shot.

Not really what you were asking but yeah =p

The one VIKKU suggested does not work with windows when i did a once over.

If there is a way from vista's one that would be great.

It's a live cd, you need to burn it and boot from it, it acts like an own OS, should work with anything.

Oh, i didn't know it was only a live cd.

Do you have more than 8GB free space? :P

I absolutely adore Acronis's Products so:

http://www.acronis.com/homecomputing/products/diskdirector/

That's my suggestion if you cannot find one that works properly, since I know for a fact that this one does.

Plus they have a full featured 30 day trial, that you can download from their website, and you can also burn a cd you can boot from, if you prefer that.

You will have to defragment the drive first, for sure.

If that doesn't work, go with the Acronis stuff. It's made of win.

gparted > acronis

I used to be a Partition Magic junkie, before Symantec bought them out. Since then, I like Paragon. Never really used Acronis stuff, but I plan to look into it.

GParted also works quite well, and it's free.

Yeah GParted is quite good, but Acronis has gloss (that's an adjective, not a technical term ;)) which is why I tend to recommend it to people who have to ask in the first place. :P
