PSP Owners, please red. by albert on 11-04-2008 at 10:24 PM

Hello to all psp owners,

i am proud to say i now join you. i've bough a psp 2000 used from a friend, extreemly cool. (i was going to get the 3000 but since it's not out in black yet, im waiting and then i'll resell the 2000).

Anyways, the psp i bought comes with some kind of hack or is it homebrew or a mod, I really don't know, the only thing I do know is that it has a menu that says M33 VSH Menu when i press SELECT.

Now, I love this thing, people who know what it is know why. The problem that I'm facing is that I don't know what this software is called. I want to be able to install it and uninstall it (install it on my future 3000, and uninstall it on this one when I will resell it). I tried googling it, but I can't really find the title of the software to learn more about it and it's versions and etc.

Anyone can tell me what it actually is? Thanks

It's the custom PSP M33 firmware

It's the M33 Custom Firmware. You can find out which version it is by going to the far left menu and choosing System Information from one of the settings things.

As for the 3000... I don't know if it's been cracked yet. The 2000 was hard enough - there are still certain things you can't do with the slim that you can with the phat (such as running 1.5 FW natively), although thanks to it's extra memory there are some M33 kernel modules which can do extra things. :)

Do I absolutely have to install the M33 Custom Firmware to be able to run games *not legally* bought off a memory stick?

Pretty much.

Okay thanks, and what is the 1.5 FW (firmware i supose..)?

RE: PSP Owners, please red. by andrewdodd13 on 11-04-2008 at 11:28 PM

Yeah, it only shipped on US and JP PSPs. It was hackable and you could run homebrew without modding the firmware.

Due to the way 1.5 Homebrew was compiled, you can only run 1.5 Homebrew on the 1.5 kernel. :)

What version of M33 do you have?

If its under 3.8, then dont do Network Update, because that removes your hacked FW and replaces it with genuine FW (basically means no more illegal shit :P) (btw correct me if im wrong).

However if it is 3.8 and above, you can use Network Update to update to the latest M33 (hacked) firmware. :)

i wish i still had mines :(

m33 = march 33  (april 2; if you have 3.90 M33-3, then the psp will change the date to 3/33 instead of 4/2)

I totally forgot to reply to this.
Shawnz explained everything I needed to know about this, so thanks a lot to him, and of course to all of you for your replies. :)
