Obama FTW by ipab on 11-05-2008 at 05:31 AM

Since no one else has done this yet :D.

Anyway, thank you USA on restoring my faith in democracy and humanity :).

On a side note, I might be either flying through the UK or Japan during December, on my way to India and I was wondering if people would be interested in a Plus! Meet...

Congrats to Obama? I haven't really followed the election but i've heard he was the better choice, but I think he will be a very high assasination target for "neo-nazi's". But congratulations and i hope a change is ahead in the USA.

.. I hate how people say that. Tbh, if you're saying people shouldn't care about race (I don't, at all), then don't say "thank you for restoring my faith in democracy" because a black person was elected president (Not saying this was your case, but it is in the majority of the cases.)

I also hate how some black people say people shouldn't care about race, and the only reason they voted for Obama was because he's black. That's hypocritical.

So anyways, I preferred McCain (I think the major/only reason he lost is because of Sarah Palin. She's dumb, and people feared she might become president because of McCain's age..). I hope Obama is not really a socialist. And that his tax proposal for the rich doesn't get passed.

I'm glad I'm a citizen of Spain though, just in case ;)

(Yay for three citizenships)

@Rolando, I was not referring to race when I said that... I was referring to not picking someone who was a republican... Not to mention, Sarah Palin in the Oval Office is a scary thought :O...

On a side note, socialism can be a good thing, look at the UK and Canada, but you don't have to worry about USA turning into a socialist country as that would NEVER happen. Overall, I think that a lot of changes are to come and need to come in order for USA to succeed as a nation again, and my country's prosperity also depends greatly on that. I think Obama is more of a progressive thinker in that sense that McCain (see McCain's view on Proposition 8)...

I know, I just said most people I know mean it that way when they say that. And I think Obama meant it that way when he said it tbh.

..and yeah, Sarah Palin as president is a scary thought.

Woke up at 5 am local time to watch some livefeed from MSNBC and follow the election with all the happy #banana family, now at lecture and I'm slowly starting to regret I didn't wake up later/go to bed sooner. I did support Obama as well, I don't know if McCain would havebeen a bad president, but for me Obamas ideas sounded better. We'll see during the next four years.

I was looking for a video on youtube for the actual announcement but i can't find anything? Help :P ?

McCain is too old by the time he does anything he'll be dead :P The only reason i wanted barrack to win was he looked like Pr. Palmer of 24 :P haha.

I'm interested in UK politics quite a bit but American politics is one big kufufel :P

Luckily, the USA has never known socialism and most Americans cannot grasp the concept as we Europeans do.
There, Obama is considered a left-wing politician, while in Europe he would be considered moderate right-wing.

He is not a socialist. Not by any means.

Glad he won, he will take the US a step further. It is my belief (and hope) that you continue to lead the Western society. No nation in the world evolved in such few time to such greatness.
I hate the fact that most Europeans go on rambling about urban myths  bashing the USA that make no sense at all. Most of them have never been there (and I do not blame them for that), it is simply bogus to talk about something if you are not capable of making a fair and impartial judgement about it.

I'm sure I can "grasp" the concept. I moved from Venezuela because of Chavez. Yeah, he's a socialist.

"Spread the wealth" is a pretty socialist concept. And yeah, I heard the whole speech he gave that day, and I know he said other things that are not "socialist," but that phrase is as socialist as it gets.

Oh, and I thought McCain's speech admitting defeat was amazing. I wish he had been that eloquent and confident throughout his campaign.

Very true.

stemwijzer.nl gives you advice which candidate best matches your own ideas based on statements from both candidates. You will be given statements from both candidates on 18 different subject... without knowing which statement is from which candidate you choose the one best fitting you.
Over 90% of the around 89000 people who took the Dutch version of this test ended up preferring Obama. That includes a lot of people who would usually vote on right-winged Dutch parties.

Obama is no way near to what we could possibly consider socialism around here :).

RE: Obama FTW by ixesha on 11-07-2008 at 11:38 PM

Haha. How is he socialist? How is the US going through a proletarian revolution? How is all production in the US going to be state controlled/owned? McCain would have been four more years of Bush. Warmongering, inanity, Sarah Palin's retardedness replacing his. Yawn. Not that I care all that much about the income. But coherence will be nice from someone (regardless of race) who is educated and seems switched on.
