Ok, so this is what i've been trying to fix for the last couple of weeks:

I installed the new MSN Beta MSN thing, and everytime i tried to log in, it said it had encountered an error. So i uninstalled it and reinstalled it and it did the same. So i uninstalled it again and tried to install a previous version so that i could use that one (I think its 8.1 ive been trying to install) and it tells me that a later one is already on there... and ive already uninstalled it.

Anyone got any ways to help?

P.S when i try to reinstall the newer one it says its already installed also.

Download the cleanup utility from microsof: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301

Once it is installed launch it from the start menu. Look for any installations for Windows Live Messenger and click remove. Once this is done you should be able to reinstall Windows Live Messenger.
