Router defaults? by SmokingCookie on 11-07-2008 at 02:48 PM

Hi,

We're having a bit of a problem at home. We have tried to change the security encryption (or whatever) from WEP to WPA 2 (AES). Now, we can no longer use the router and have to contact our modem directly.

Can anyone please help on resetting the router defaults?
Thx in dvance.

What sort of router is it. There is usually a tiny little button on the rear of the router you have to push in with a pen or other small object.

You usually have to turn the router on and hold the button in for some time (I'd say 15 seconds would be plenty).

Use ethernet and try going to http://192.169.0.1 It's usually the default config page

He can't access it which is why he has to reset it with the button on the back. Also the address is different depending on what router he has. All of my modems have been 192.168.0.1 and my routers have been 192.168.1.1

Yeah, well, I've been busy all afternoon, and got it some kind of working again using the "did-somethingbut-dont-know-what"-method..

Thanks anyway ;)

PS: NEVER screw up the securty settings of yor router :S

How does having the wrong encryption for wireless stop you connecting with an ethernet cable?

This is why I asked him what router he had. Not all wireless routers have ethernet ports. The fact that he had to contact his modem directly is why I thought this. My post was the only one needed. It is how you reset your router without having access to it. Even RaceProUK's post wasn't needed as I pointed that out to. Run along now scamp.

pc downstairs should go to router

RE: Router defaults? by SmokingCookie on 11-08-2008 at 08:28 PM

It is (wireless). That's why my parents wanted WPA2 security. (And I didn't 'cuz I knew it'd turn out like this).

And I've been telling my parents they should extend the wire from the PC downstairs to the router. But they don't want to (of course :S ) for whatever mysterious reason (parents ^o) :P )

RE: Router defaults? by Menthix on 11-08-2008 at 08:51 PM

You should be proud your parents at least know how to secure their wireless network :). So many people still don't know or simply don't care to secure their connection, leaving it open for everybody to steal your passwords and other scary things.

They didn't know until my mother read the "digital-magazine" from the "Consumentenbond" :P

Well, I've clicked the mouse button LOTS of times that afternoon, only to try and repair the damage damage done by these security settings.
