skype + vista = dumb by Jarrod on 11-09-2008 at 04:54 AM

every time i make a call on skype from vista it resets my microphone input to the inbuilt sound card which is not the default,
would anyone happen to know why this is or know of a fix for it?

Tools -> Options -> General -> Audio Settings

Microphone -> Select Proper Microphone
Uncheck "Let Skype adjust my audio settings"

does it change the default microphone in windows, or does it just use a different microphone than the default? because you can set up skype to use any microphone, even if it isn't the default...

ok i have my logitech camera sitting on top of my screen, it is set to windows default, it works in sound recorder and other applications, i open options in skype to make sure it is set to be used, as soon as the call connects the microphone switches back to the onboard microphone and i need to change while in the call to make it work.

Not sure whether it would help, but you may wish to try the Skype Beta

It seems to handle devices much better.  For example, if you plug in a USB headset during the call, even one Skype has never seen before, the Beta will recognize it's a headset and prompt you to switch the audio to it.
