Error 8100030f with WLM9 by giken on 11-18-2008 at 08:58 AM

Hi guys,
I'm getting this error when I try to login with the public beta of WLM9:

The message in english says:
"Signing in to Windows Live Messenger Beta failed because the authentication service is not compatible with this version of the program.
Error code: 8100030f"

WLM 8.5 on the same pc works perfectly
I already tried to uninstall and reinstall WLM9 (cleaning registry too).

Any help? :(

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/830539

that may or may not help

it was linked on another website in a thread with someone experiencing your problem

have you tried disabling your firewall and signing in....as that also seems to be a common cause of that problem

Thanks djdannyp, but I already found that kb and it's related to problems with "Windows Messenger" and a custom Messenger Server :(

It doesn't give any help about WLM.

RE: Error 8100030f with WLM9 by giken on 11-19-2008 at 09:12 AM

I found a solution :)

It seems to be a problem with DNS resolution on some particular kinds of LANs.

Just browse to "c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\", open the file "hosts" with Notepad and add this string to fix the error:

65.54.239.80    messenger.hotmail.com

:D :D :D :D :D

(I contacted WLM developers and they told me this will be fixed in final version)

I have the poduction version 2009 built 14, today I just went with the instructions in this video

it works just great.

I saw the video, it's correct (it shows same steps I posted).

But it's toooooo long, it takes more than 8 minutes to explain 3 simple steps :P

Hosts file fix worked great for me too.  I find it amazing that they release with this huge an issue.  I work in quality assurance for major PC/Printer manufacturer software, and this would never fly for our releases:S(N)
