Lid ACPI - Can someone do this? by Nathan on 11-21-2008 at 09:28 PM

Hey,

I have always wanted a little program that would lock the computer as soon as the lid as closed.
I was looking through my system a few days ago looking into the acpi's and shiz - bored, and just fiddling. And I found the Lid ACPI, which I know turns off the display (instead of just turning the backlight which it normally only does with a button the chassis). And I can assume you can use this ACPI in a way, to see if it's shut and then simply lock the laptop.

Can't be that hard for someone with a little bit of knowledge with C#/C++/C applications, right?

I'm willing to be £5 or so for it, please?

Can't you just use windows to set the laptop to go on standby when you shut the lid and to require a password for resume?

FFS. Everyone suggests this. If I wanted to put it into standby, thats what I would do. But I wan't my laptop to be fully on.
I've been googling for days and months, and other people have suggested the same thing, so it's annoying to see you lot do it as well :P

Set a screensaver with a password instead then?

Or just Press Windows Key + L when you leave your computer.

There's really far simpler options than creating a program for it :P
