Automatically Get ID3 Tag's? by Quantum on 12-08-2008 at 04:55 PM

I just bought an iPod, and started using iTunes. I was using MediaMonkey, and I love it's ability to automatically download id3 tag info from amazon. Does iTunes have a plugin or anything that will do this? Does anyone have any suggestions?

If this is possible it would be great!

If you have an iTunes account, it will dowload them automatically, I think. (At least here, it get all album info, for example.)

Neither are mine.

Thinking better, iTunes only downloads the album's covers and is compatible with ID3 tags, I didn't see anything about download ID3 tags there... But why do you want them?

I need album art and ID3 tags for all my songs. There must be a way via itunes?

If you have the option to automaticaly download album cover arts, activate the option that does it (Edit>Preferences>Store>Automatically transfer album art [I think it's that the name, I'm using a non-english version of it, but it's the last option of the 4th tab of the last option of the second menu =P). If the album name is correct, it will download them in a very nice reslution. (I can use coverflow in fullscreen and the covers still perfect...)
Why to use ID3 tags? Aren't them just to keep the information on the file itself? If its for that, take it easy, seems like they're automatically created when you edit the file info from iTunes.

I don't get you. Sorry. Can i tunes "get" and fill in information about songs?

If i have a song called: Downtown

It will get the artist, album, art and year of release? etc.  That option you said wont work if i have no album name????

I know that in my Zune software I can right-click an album and click 'find info' or something of the sort and it will allow me to find what I want and match up the songs. I would assume iTunes has some sort of similar feature.

my itunes seems to sporadically add extra info to some of my songs, filling in track number, etc

so i'm sure it can be done, I just don't know if there's any way to manually start the process in itunes.

it'd be quicker and more accurate to just do it yourself :P

of course it'd also be quicker to just google and then with about 2 mins of searching you'd have found this :P

That's for normal MP3's. What is on my ipod cannot be taken out. So it must be done from itunes.

Convert them to mp3 =P
iTunes itself can do it, just change this option at the settings.

if you take a bit of time to search around there's plenty of free, working programs to copy music from ipods to pcs.

depending on what generation your ipod is, then ipod agent may work if you can find an old copy of it (it's been turned into something else now that i don't think is freeware), but it's worth a try

howcome you don't still have the original files of those on ur ipod?

are you just going to manually sync your ipod each time? :S

no, don't do that
google how to create an itunes account for free online, and then it will have the option to update song info (i don't regularly use itunes, but its album art finder feature is VERY nice, and i believe it also finds album info)

There is a 'Get CD Track Names' feature in iTunes, but i doubt it works as well as that link i posted earlier

especially as i doubt most of his songs have come from cds, so will have the relevant information that itunes needs to find the info

RE: Automatically Get ID3 Tag's? by Voldemort on 12-08-2008 at 09:41 PM

it crashes with 5500 songs, been there done that
