Virus received while installing Plus! by matt on 12-17-2008 at 11:58 PM

Quick question.  I don't know if this happens to everybody or what.  Once I was installing Plus 4.7 my A/V notified me that I had a Generic Troyan... Just when I run the MsgPlusLive Installer (.exe file).

Is it normal? I have had install Plus before but never had this virus problem.  I'm just trying to prevent.

If you downloaded the installer from the official website (www.msgpluslive.net) it's most likely a false positive. Which antivirus do you use?

I've Panda + Firewall 08 right now...  I did download the installer in the official site and installed the sponsor version.

It's the installer that's bringing up the trojan alert, so whether or not the sponsor is installed or not makes no difference.

Well, the installer does install the sponsor program as well (or at least loads the sponsor installer), right?

matt: Does the virus alert also come up when you install MP!L without the sponsor? Or do you get the warning instantly when loading the installer?

Well I just used VirScan to scan the installer and all of them say its clean, including Panda.

MsgPlusLive-470.exe Scan Result (for WLM 8.5)
MsgPlusLive-479.exe Scan Result (for WLM 2009)

Matt, can you screenshot when it alerts you of the trojan and post it here?

Correct. The sponsor is the reason why the installer is sometimes falsely alerted as a virus/trojan/etc. From what he said, as soon as he runs the installer it brings up the trojan alert, meaning that it wouldn't make any difference whether or not the sponsor was installed or not.
