Checking for updates.
It will only ever connect to http://www.hotmailstuff.com/update a maximum of once per day, and only download about 25 bytes max, and will not send any data about you, your program or anything else.

On some systems a connection may be made to http://www.hotmailstuff.com/download/* to download updates and required files, but this will happen only for new versions or at installation.

BetterMSN is 100% open source, so there is no need to take my word for it, have a look at the source code: http://cvs.sourceforge.net/cgi-bin/viewcvs.cgi/*c...nt-type=text/plain and look for the function CheckUpdate.

They still work for me, but fairly slowly.
A direct link to the download is available at http://easynews.dl.sourceforge.net/sourceforge/be...etterMSN-0.B.1.exe and its not hosted on the same server, so try that. This link will not be a permanent link to the latest version, unlike the download link.

Ginge, what the fuck has my Norton AntiVirus 2003 detected?!?!?!

I can guarantee that action is completely harmless, its just norton throwing a paddy over something irreleveant. All its doing is creating a shortcut, Norton seems to think this is bad, it isn't.

The next version will use a different method to create shortcuts, which won't trigger norton. This is not a bug with the program, but a bug with Norton.

All the people on your list ARE offline, its just using your MSN 4 list.

Solutions, pick any:

1) Uninstall MSN copies so you have just one left - either MSN 4 or MSN 5, or WM5 etc.

2) Use MSN 5 fix www.hotmailstuff.com/msn5fix.htm then you should be able to use your MSN 5 list without uninstalling 4.

Just click yes, you can always roll back your changes 100% - so its impossible to do permanent damage.

Its only asking because at the moment BetterMSN does work for you, just not using the account you want it to.
