Downgrading MSN? by stephhhhh on 01-18-2009 at 08:24 PM

I recently updated MSN to MSNPlusLive470, but I really don't like it and I can't download the old one anywhere. I prefer it to the one I have at the minute. I can't be sure, but I think the last one I had was 460. Anyone know how I can get it back?

Messenger Plus! Live is just an add-on for Windows Live Messenger

Downgrading Messenger Plus! Live gives you no advantages, only less features, as Plus only improves features, rarely removing them.

What is your current version of Windows Live Messenger?  (Found in 'Help'->'About Messenger')

If you wish, you can find 8.5 (the old version) on http://www.filehippo.com

Otherwise go to http://download.live.com to get version 2009.

Either way, you should upgrade to the latest Messenger Plus! Live from here to ensure you get the full features

I know, but I find the 2009 one just a bit more difficult to use. My current one is the 2009 version.

I want the one that looks like this:

Hm, I can't seem to find 8.5 on there, only 6.2. Would you be able to link me directly to it please?

I don't mind having the old 8.5, but with the MSN Plus! add-on. :)

Thanks for helping.

here is the link

you probably only found 6.2 as that is the page is finds on there when searching for MSN Messenger

MSN Messenger was rebranded Windows Live Messenger and that is the name of the 8.5 version :)

Thanks. :)
It's still not working though. :S I downloaded it, accepted the terms, etc then it said there was a "Catastrophic failure" and it didn't install.

Try using ZapMessenger to remove all traces of 2009

Then restart your computer and try installing 8.5 again

Doesn't work mate, I just tried it.
It still pops up with the
"A newer version is available. You must install the newer version in order to continue."

:(

there's no point in using the old version, since you won't be able to for much longer...

You mean Windows XP 64-bit?

In order to install the latest version on it just download the contacts.msi and messenger.msi standalone installers and then it should work
