Coyote on 01-30-2009 at 06:49 PM
Today I opened the case for the first time, and I cleaned around a bit. I didn't have compressed air, so I just cleaned the most obvious parts with one of those special tissues that don't leave little pieces (dry). RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by toddy on 01-30-2009 at 06:52 PM
did you plug the fan back in? and to the correct socket? RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by L. Coyote on 01-30-2009 at 07:03 PM
I didn't unplug the fan. I just removed the box and kept it close to the case. RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by toddy on 01-30-2009 at 07:13 PM as long as you know (take note if need be) of what wires your unplug, your best removing the fans to clean them, especially the processor fan. as its more the heatsink that needs cleaning rather than the fan RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by Jesus on 01-30-2009 at 07:16 PM
You can try booting with the case open to check if all fans are spinning. If they are, everything is probably ok. Some parts inside your PC can get quite hot, especially the GPU and CPU. Temperatures of 60~70 degrees celsius are not uncommon in these areas, which is quite hot to touch with your bare hands, but does not instantly burn your skin. if you took the heatsink off the CPU, you might have also made the thermal grease less effective RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by L. Coyote on 01-30-2009 at 07:45 PM
Guys, after my last message I came back to see if anything was loose. I pressed some of the plugged stuff, just in case they had been pulled by mistake. RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by prashker on 01-30-2009 at 07:51 PM

$7 if you want the good stuff RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by prashker on 01-30-2009 at 08:03 PM
psh, i just used the stuff that came with my Q6600 RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by L. Coyote on 01-30-2009 at 08:08 PM
Haha! I'll see what I can get. RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by Quantum on 01-30-2009 at 09:47 PM You can use pre-made paste other than alcohol. I find the paste better for cleaning as it's more compatible with the thermal paste. RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by Spunky on 01-30-2009 at 10:46 PM
quote: what? You want something that'll remove it, not have a relationship with it. Most of the grease will probably come off with the same type of tissue you used before and then a tiny bit of alcohol on another tissue to remove the residue RE: CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by Quantum on 01-30-2009 at 10:50 PM What i meant is, it goes on better after cleaning. This Monday I'm taking the tower to get it greased and to see if they can remove the rest of the dust I couldn't remove. RE: RE: [Semi-solved] CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by davidpolitis on 02-04-2009 at 06:18 AM
quote:So... what happened? ![]() RE: [Semi-solved] CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by Chancer on 02-04-2009 at 11:51 AM That error happened to me months ago. I'm 90% sure the reason was my memory card reader's cable that wasn't plugged very well. It was loosen. I removed and put back and had no more problems. RE: [Semi-solved] CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by L. Coyote on 02-09-2009 at 11:22 PM
quote:Until I mess inside the case again I guess I'll never be sure what happened. But that error was easily fixed by pressing all the inner cables' plugs. quote:Sorry, kind of forgot. ![]() The tech guy applied the grease (and properly cleaned up the fan in the box), and now I'm running at 38-40C. Tbh, the cleanup fee is way cheaper than getting all the materials. Except for the value of learning, it's really not worth cleaning it up by myself. Now it's properly solved. ;P RE: RE: [Semi-solved] CPU Fan Error after cleaning up by davidpolitis on 02-10-2009 at 04:26 AM
