New computer by Jimbo on 01-30-2009 at 10:55 PM

Well, I'm thinking of buying a new PC as i nearly have enough for what i want.
The least i want is a Intel® Core™ i7 920, with at least 3GB ram, and at least an nVIDIA GTX 260. Everything else doesnt really matter.
My budget is around £1500. Anyone know anywhere i can get a pc like this for around my budget?

(Also, no one suggest building my own as i've never done that before and would probably screw ip up)

Thanks

Second link is a LOT better, a few hundred out of your range but I think that you should be willing to stretch as it seems good :p

Excessive though, when are you ever going to use 9GB of ram, and I doubt Jimbo needs dual 260s.

Plus, didn't you just buy a new PC? =/

Well of course it's excessive, but if he wants to waste money I'm not going to stop him :p

Second link is good, but im never going to need dual 260s as vaccination said.
and @ vaccination, i was going to get one, but i never did. But now as i nearly got enough money, and theres the new i7 out, i was looking for advice.

Also, what is better, 32 bit, or 64 bit?

A 32 bit os can only address 3,12 GB of memory, so if you have more memory installed, it will be necessary, to use a 64 bit os.

Find a company where you can pick your own parts, but let them assemble it.

All the goodness of building your own PC without the downsides like needing technical skill and lacking full shop warranty.

RE: New computer by Nathan on 01-31-2009 at 07:08 PM

Aria.co.uk

THey will assemble for an extra £50.

Very good site, cheap and trustworthy

http://www.powerc.com/gp/pc.main/1

got mine from there in the summer

LOTS of customisation options onto their base units.

no extra cost for assembly

The cheaper system has one year extra "return to base Warranty", but I'm not sure if it includes the Akasa Neo CPU cooler which I think the more expensive system may.

PAE is shit :p
RE: RE: New computer by CookieRevised on 02-01-2009 at 10:18 PM

It is going to take a long while before everything is 64bit.

If you ask me, 64bit is still kind of a "hype" (for the lack of a better word, so mind the quotes). 95% of all programs are still 32bit. You will still have troubles finding decent and correct 64bit drivers for many stuff. Some programs wont even work under 32bit simulation on 64bit machines, etc...

If you have the cash and if you're geeky, buy it by all means. Otherwise, just stick with 32bit for the time being. By the time 64bit has almost completely taken over you would probably already have bought a couple of new PCs anyways... (unless you plan to stick with your PC for like 10 years like me :p)...

Vintige FTW! lol

RE: New computer by Quantum on 02-01-2009 at 11:16 PM

Is there not mother boards that are 32 and 64 compatible and you can switch between them?

I'm sure my dad has one and he can do that if he wanted.

RE: New computer by prashker on 02-01-2009 at 11:18 PM

You don't switch, you either install a 32bit operating system or 64bit assuming your CPU supports it :p

RE: New computer by Quantum on 02-01-2009 at 11:20 PM

Well it must of been is CPU. He's 32 bit atm. If he reinstalled into 64 is there really any much benefit?
