Installing XP from a USB. by Steven on 01-31-2009 at 02:02 AM

Hi.

On my laptop booting from cd is impossible as the drive doesn't work. I would like to install xp from  a usb, and ive googled and i have tried 3 methods, one of the methods succesfully lead me to the windows setup screen, and everything was fine, except when i got to the part where it showed the drives that i want to install windows xp to, all i saw was my 4gb usb, and not my actaul hard drive.

Does anyone know a succesfull way how to do this? PS, i want to do this because do this every few months to clean out my harddrive and make my computer fast again, but this time my cd drive doesn't work.

the one that got you to the setup screen was probably working perfectly, but the setup was missing the right drivers for your laptop hard drive. see if you can find the drivers and use nlite to integrate them into the setup.

Here's one way to install XP if you can put your HDD in another computer: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showpost.php?s=b9...030791&postcount=3

(Although that probably doesn't exactly help you, I thought I'd post the URL anyway for someone to maybe make use of since it helped me in the past)
