Heya,

after a longer than usual beta period, the new Messenger Plus! is finally ready and can be found in the download section of the site. Of course, the main attraction of version 4.80 is full compatibility with the latest version of Messenger, Windows Live Messenger 2009, and when we say “full compatibility”, we mean just that. You won’t find any ”light” trimmed-down version of your add-on here.

Despite the lack of visual changes in the software, the change log shows that many things were done under the hood. As often, scripts and skins in particular got their good share of improvements. There are now more than 500 of them in the official databases of this site. This means that you could spend the next month customizing Messenger with Plus!, its scripts and its skins and you would still haven’t seen everything. Big thanks to all the developers who keep on working on these improvements to make our daily IM life better.

In addition to the bug fixes and cosmetic improvements, this new Messenger Plus! also allows external developers to modify Messenger’s encoded windows’ files (UIB files) like they did with previous versions of Messenger. More information about that can be found in the skinning documentation. Note to all the developers reading this: Messenger Plus! is not required to be installed on your users’ computers for this feature to be used. The UIB files generated by Messenger Plus! can be read by Messenger just like the original ones which means that you can do the modifications you want on your system, encode the files and distribute the final result with your application.

Thanks for the update. There are still several bugs; most of them appear after minimizing and maximizing a chat/contact list window.

EDIT: Nvm, did a uninstall/reinstall and it fixed those up

Now, to make the script (and skin) developers community even better, have a look at all our suggestions. Really, there are a lot of small things preventing us from making our work stand out, so I think we as a community would really appreciate it when you spent some time implementing some of the script and skin suggestions from the beta testing suggestions thread. Some of those suggestions were posted more than a year ago, and in my opinion they don't look very hard to implement.

Make Plus! a better environment for developers, and let us do the creative works!

One feature that came with Vista was the previewing of active application on the taskbar available if you have a compatible Aero video card. That feature work nicely until you turn Tabbed on...

Also when you set Tabbed on, its still using old msn icon ...

How can he say full compatibility when tabbed feature cuts down icon and preview of wlm 2009 ???

I just noticed that the file downloaded from mirror2 is named "Setup.exe" which is not very very clear...why isn't it named MsgPlusLive-480.exe ?

Though I can trust the file anyway as it's digitally signed.

So, I was updating my translation, and saw that "Messenger Plus! Network", which appeared in the last beta, but I still can't see it working. Is it available already or not?
And "MP! Network" is a name or should I translate the word "network"?

This is a known issue, I believe.

and Patchou has already said (somewhere!) that he won't be doing much work on Windows 7 specific things until it is out of RC (or possibly even Beta) stages.

So for now, if you want to use Windows 7, you'll have to put up with a few bugs

Windows 7 RC won't be open to public downloading so this is the only beta ppl can install to their computer and I prefer Windows 7 on my computer. Faster than Windows Vista =D

I agree too, I tested it and it runs great on my computer, and I installed it on a spare 20 GB disk I had saved on a drawer lol
