Trivial questions by P.J. on 03-12-2009 at 10:07 AM

Hi,

How do I set my colour so my msn (cause i have multiple users on this PC) and contacts appear in my colour?

Also, how do i use/turn on the handwriting thingy. My daughters friend has it, so i had to download it straight away. First download i didn't add any extra (like writer) and it said "you need to install or download update".

So i re-installed the new version of messenger and included the writer program only for some other garbage program to be loaded onto my pc and this handwriting thing to still not work.

How do i turn it on!!!!

Thanks

Oh, and i've used the help and downloaded the two downloads that need to be downloaded...

# Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer 1.5
# Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer Security Update

And it still doesn't work....

To use the handwriting feature click on the icon indicated in this screenshot i found:

Click for full version:

You then use the mouse or a graphic tablet to write.

Windows Live Writer is a completely seperate thing, nothing to do with Windows Live Messenger, so you can uninstall it if you wish.

When you go to Add/Remove Programs, do you see Microsoft Windows Journal Viewer there? Because as soon as I have downloaded it from here, the handwriting worked perfectly after restarting Windows Live Messenger.

That link is supposed to be a picture :P

It's showing you where to click to activate the handwriting feature

You don't need to download anything extra

You need Messenger Plus! Live to do that which can be downloaded here.

Once it's installed, open the Preferences & Options of Messenger Plus! Live and click the 'Customize!' tab along the top and ensure that "Allow me to connect to several accounts simultaneously" is selected

Then just click on WLM in the start menu again and it will open a second instance for you to sign into

Thanks mate. I have no idea why they dont bundle all this stuff into one program.

It'd be great if you could download msn messenger and just start chatting. All these other programs and add ons and bla bla bla, drive me spastic.

They really should put it all in one program.

Does anyone know how to customise colours? I have 4 people in my house who use msn (most of the time, at the same time). When a message pops up for me, it's orange. Wife is blue etc etc. Now, even though I customise my contacts screen, the chats are all blue.

Can this be done? I promise, no more questions after this one....

Messenger Plus! Live is an add-on for Windows Live Messenger developed by Patchou.  It's not part of Messenger and it's got nothing to do with Microsoft, that's why it's not bundled :)

When a chat pops up the colour of the window is determined by the colour that the other person has their messenger set to.

So for example if you choose to colour yours red, then your chat window will appear red to whichever contacts you talk to

That isn't a problem, that's what happens with WLM 2009.

If your wife opens up a conversation window with you it will be orange, but unless a contact has chosen a colour other than blue (which is the default) then their conversation windows will show as blue
