WLM 2009 - Any way to remove the gray dot? by Suzy83 on 03-21-2009 at 10:24 AM

Hello :) I was just wondering if there is any way to remove that horrible gray dot that you now see before every message you send in Windows Live Messenger 2009?

Thank you in advance :)

(I saw this on Yahoo, but I have no idea where to find this ID 1749 thingamajig LOL.)

change the image id on the program folder (ID 1749 with either a blank 12x7 box
  On Yahoo...

I think it is a file, and you have to replace the contents or whatever of the file for a 12X7 pic, so basically, you are just replacing the gray dot with another picture of your choice.

Hehe yeah I understood that much ;)

But I can't seem to find the mentioned file anywhere? ^o)

You can do that with skinning, but you can also enable the old way. Tools-Options-Messages-Group messages... It may be different, I'm not using the english messenger

The ID 1749 is the one you've got to replace via skinning so that you get no dot at all =P

Only way is via skinning, it is really too dumb not to offer an option to disable it in Messenger's options. A-patch offered a feature to remove it but not anymore.

There is no option or group of Group Messages in the English WLM.

Yes there is....exactly where he said it

"Group sequential messages from each contact together"

That just means that any messages sent one after the other without interruption won't have a dot, eg:

Contact 1 says:
*hello
what are you up to?
can i come over?

Contact 2 says:
*hey
sure, I'm not doing anything

Contact 1 says:
*okay, cool

Contact 2 says:
*see you soon
xx

skinning is really the only way to completely remove the dot

Nope, I've just tried unchecking that option, but it still comes out as a DOT..

The dots before the messages can be hidden with this...

Annoying in what way? It is there to make it easy to recognize different messages, but well...

RE: WLM 2009 - Any way to remove the gray dot? by blessedguy on 03-22-2009 at 02:43 AM

Annoying in loosing 1.8% of my scren widht with it (kidding =P, But really wastes 1.8% of my screen width...)
Also, it's ugly... and I don't like the grouped messages, so it's useless for me... Don't know for other people though.

The only thing that really bothers me about the dot is the fact that it's included in copy paste stuff. If it wasn't I wouldn't care because it's not that big.

Yeah, when copying and pasting the copied info, including the dots, it will come out * as the dot. Annoying!

blessedguy's 'My Live Messenger' skin has this option.

And it's a great skin, very customisable and flexible.
