WLM v2008 to v2009 upgrade by alegator on 04-09-2009 at 06:19 AM

I currently have WLM2008 8.5.1302.1018 and plan to upgrade to WLM2009 latest build. Will I lose the nicknames and contact info I currently have within WLM2008? If so, can I export the info and import it back into WLM2009 or it can only be done manually? Thanks.

Of course not. Your email, nickname and contacts are all stored on the server. Messenger is just a program which allows you to view them and interact with them. Upgrading or downgrading won't affect them. :)

Edit: Although there's no harm in exporting your contacts list and saving it to your hard drive. I back up my contacts list once a month. This can be done by going to Contacts > Save instant messaging contacts.

Really? So for example when I add a contact in WLM2008 and assign to it a custom nickname using "Edit nickname" or write info on each contact using "Edit contact", all of this data is stored in the MSN server? I thought all that info (except of course my actual contact list) was stored in my local hard drive. Maybe I'm confused because in MSN v7 all of this info was handled by the Plus! program and stored locally.
So given that no contact info (nicknames, contact info, etc) added by myself is affected, then I can upgrade to WLM2009 without any loss of information?

The Custom Nicknames should be stored on the server, as it changes on the Hotmail web mail every time I change a nickname on WLM.
