Can you log into any other Windows Live services such as hotmail?

If you can't, there have been some problems with the servers that may be causing a few problems. If this is the case, all you can do is wait.

If you can log onto hotmail, try using zap messenger by our very own, Jonathan Kay to do a full uninstall.

ZapMessenger is only of any use if a full uninstall doesn't actually happen. Using it to remove messenger is the incorrect way and may cause more problems than it solves.

Remove WLM the correct way (Add/Remove Programs) and then make sure there are no remnants left of it in the Program Files folder (Program Files\Windows Live\Messenger) and that it is not in the registry still (HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows Live Messenger)

If, when you re-install, it does not work still, it is not an error with the installation. In this case it would be wise to send feedback to Microsoft about the error using this link, as otherwise they will be unaware of any such problems and will be unable to help in the future.

I am having the same problem and re-installing doesn't help, ive tried deleteing every part of messenger from my laptop and used ZapMessenger and everything else that could take all elements off the program off.

After doing this i still get the same error code, someone help?

Reinstalling won't help. I had the same issues and found the steps listed below helped.

Delete the Messenger Contacts Cache folder

For Windows Vista

1. Show (unhide) hidden files and folders:

    a. Click Start, and then click My Computer.

    b. In the new window, click the Organize drop-down list, and then select the Folder and Search options check box.

    c. In the Folder options window, click the View tab.

   d. Make sure that the Show hidden files and folders check box is selected.

   e. Click Ok, and then close the window.

2. Delete the contact store:

   a. Click Start, and then click Computer.

   b. Locate the following folder:

C:\Users\Windows_log-on_name\Contacts\Messenger_e-mail_address

   c. Delete all the files that are in this folder.

   d. Locate and open the following folder:

C:\Users\Windows_log-on_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

   e. Delete all the folders that are in this folder, including the hidden folders.

   f. Close the window, and then try signing in to Windows Live Messenger.

For Windows XP:

1. Show (unhide) hidden files and folders:

   a. Click Start, and then click My Computer.

   b. In the My Computer window, click Folder Options on the Tools menu.

   c. In the Folder Options window, click the View tab.

   d. Make sure that the Show hidden files and folders check box is selected.

   e. Click Ok, and then close the window.

2. Delete the contact store:

   a. Click Start, and then click My Computer.

   b. Locate the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Windows_log-on_name\Contacts\Messenger_e-mail_address

   c. Delete all the files that are in this folder.

   d. Locate the following folder:

C:\Documents and Settings\Windows_log-on_name\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

   e. Delete all the folders, including the hidden folders, that are in this folder.

   f. Close the window, and then try signing in to Windows Live Messenger.

I'm having the same issues.  The 8e5e0152.  I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling.  Following all the steps of the above posts.   And some steps from some other posts and nothing works.   Zap Messenger did squatt and I keep getting this error.   Microsoft is no help cause they want you to pay 60 bucks to even talk to you.

I've even tried going to older versions and they automatically update me to the version with the issue.   It's driving me up the wall.

i've been having the same problem as well...i've tried reinstalling, i don't have any firewalls up, i've done the caches and all that, and none of it has worked....it also says that i'm not connected to the .NET but it is up and working fine..
