Messenger crashing by Batch108 on 04-26-2009 at 04:21 PM

I have just tried installing the new messenger live (8.1?) it keeps crashing and stopping working shortly after running and closing the program? I gave up after about 10 times and uninstalled it and reverted back to version 5.1?. This didn't even get through the installation process?

Can anyone help?

I am using Vista home premium with SP1

Firstly, welcome to the forums, unfortunately you posted in the wrong section.

For your issue the latest version of Windows Live Messenger is 9 (otherwise known as 14 or 2009). Download it here; http://messenger.live.com.

Enjoy :)

Thanks Eddie for your reply!

I have just downloaded the Messenger from that link, installed. It started OK, then stopped working, saying that Messenger had stopped working, it mentioned to protect your computer 'Data Execution' caused the program to close!

The program 'WLSetup' was the same as I installed yesterday, maybe a different version, but ....

What next?

Thanks Eddie, I ran it and restarted, messenger is still running. I'm surprised that we have to resort to running some script from the command prompt for a much used program like messenger. Another nail in my coffin of Windows. I was already getting converted to Mac, been using them for the last five months, no blue screen of death, no crashes, just works, smoothly and does everything effortlessly!!
