Crashes WLM by gameguider on 05-09-2009 at 04:47 PM

I've had no problems with MsgPlus before, but the other day I downloaded the newest version of WLM (v14), and the new MsgPlus, and when I run them both, WLM crashes when it tries to sign me in.

I've uninstalled MsgPlus to check whether it's WLM, but it runs fine without it. I've reinstalled and reinstalled and still no luck.

Any help?

Sorry if there were no answears, but normally people won't answear to something they don't know =).
Anyways, have you installed any script? It shouldn't crash WLM....
RE: Crashes WLM by gameguider on 05-09-2009 at 10:38 PM

Sorry about that XD

I've not installed any as far as I'm aware, how would I check if it crashes it before I can see?

There are no scripts then. Maybe it could also be a corrupted MsgPlus file? Or conflict with another software?
Could you please go to Add/Remove programs and run the setup utility, asking for a restore? If it doesn't work, a list of all installed programs would help =)

How do I do that? And I have hundreds of programs in my list... it would take ages to list them!

Are you sure you don't have any toolbars installed, as Kiwee or SmileyCentral? (Someones won't show up in Add/Remove)
RE: Crashes WLM by gameguider on 05-10-2009 at 04:45 PM

Positive - I've never installed any and I've even done a search - no results found.

RE: Crashes WLM by djdannyp on 05-10-2009 at 05:47 PM

Conflicting toolbars shouldn't cause crashes, just Messenger Plus! Live features wouldn't work properly.

When Messenger crashes, choose to 'send report' to microsoft as Patchou has access to these reports and could will help him determine the cause of your crash and see if it is a wider issue

What versions of Windows Live Messenger are you running? What version of Windows are you running? Are you running any other Messenger Related Programs / Add-Ons. I've experienced this issue before it was however caused by something entirely different. If i recall correctly it was caused by old files that had built up.

Try the following;
- Start ==> Run
- Type %appdata%\Microsoft
- Delete MSN Messenger folder and Restart

Also out of curiosity have you ever previously installed Messenger Discovery?

Let me know if it solves anything :)
RE: Crashes WLM by JustExtreme on 05-17-2009 at 03:12 PM

I'm using the latest version I think 14.0.8064.206

I still experience the problem after deleting that folder.

Yes, I installed Messenger Discovery quite a while a go but removed it when I realised all the featured I used in it were available in Plus! anyway. They always worked fine alongside each other then though,

I can't think why WLM has just randomly began crashing when MsgPlus is enabled.

Try downloading the following program; http://www.ccleaner.com/

It's called C (Crap) Cleaner, do a registry and a files cleanup in that software, make a backup when cleaning the registry though just in case, there could be files left behind in different places that could cause conflicts. (This software is good for general use as it helps keep your pc clean of all the crap)

Also what version of Windows are you running? (Vista, XP, Seven)
RE: Crashes WLM by JustExtreme on 05-17-2009 at 04:29 PM

I tend to run CCleaner weekly, I'll try now though.

I'm using Windows XP Professional SP3

RE: Crashes WLM by Patchou on 05-17-2009 at 04:55 PM

If you have another add-on installed in Messenger, the first thing you should try is to uninstall them. Id it doesn't work, you should uninstall Messenger, delete its directory, reinstall Messenger and restart your computer to make sure any "damage" another addon could have done is corrected.

One simple thing you can do as well which will solve all problems related to faulty scripts and skins installed in Messenger Plus! is to run the Messenger Plus! unisntaller and go through the "Maintenance Wizard".

Hope it helps.

RE: Crashes WLM by afgzee on 05-19-2009 at 08:59 PM

i have the same problem.
When i uninstall Messenger Plus, it works fine again, when i try to sign in it will crash, if i keep trying maybe 6 or 7 times to sign in then it will eventually sign in and not crash.

i tried uninstall, reinstall and everything, nothing works

please fix this.

There was a thread on this about a month ago:

http://shoutbox.menthix.net/showthread.php?tid=89990&page=1

My solution at the end of page 1 worked for me, but didn't for others strangely, but if anything, it appears to be advert related that WLM closes on sign-in if MsgPlus is installed too.
