Trouble Downloading latest messenger by Raceln on 08-26-2009 at 12:22 AM

So I went to sign into my messenger and it tells me I need to download the latest one in order to sign in so I do then it comes up with an error message and its this one
error: os_check: 080280004
I use windows xp professional 64 so if someone can tell me how to get it to work, that would be great. It not, it looks like i'll be downloading trillian which I really dont want to.

Yea looks like i may just get trillian as i've tried several different things and nothing has worked.

I also have this problem. Windows XP 64-bit is the only operating not supported by this "Windows Live Essentials" thing, and you're forced to use Essentials, even if you didn't want to. This was a random download prompt that has since blocked my being able to use MSN too. This is the only place I could find that was talking about this recent happening.

I don't want to give up on MSN so easily, but I may also have to try Trillian just so I can use MSN again.

There's a problem with the latest Messenger version and 64 bit XP.

Jonathan wrote a post about it including severl solutions: Wrong forced upgrade for Windows Server 2003 and Windows XP x64 users (solutions inside for os_check: 0x80280004).

I just tried logging on msn on a whim, it worked. No prompt to download the new Essentials or anything. I guess Microsoft turned off that flag or something for us XP 64-bit users?
