According to original poster in his comment on a Taiwan BBS board, this appears to be fixed after upgrading Messenger to 2009. :)

Hey there...

I'm now postign here too, because the title hopefully will bring more people to this thread and hopefully solve the problem.

So I don't want to change to the newest version, because how already mentioned "it sucks"...

I think to fix this problem shouldn't be that hard, because it did work a few days ago and I don't think WLM has changed that much...

Here are two other threads with the same problem:

thanks in advance

I have the exact same problem and it really annoys me how it just suddenly stopped recording sign in events a few days ago. I hate the look of Windows Live Messenger 2009 and will not upgrade unless I have to. There must be another solution to this problem.

microsoft clearly found a way to try and force its msn clients to upgrade to the new version.
since a lot of people refuse to do so and found a way to roll their version back to the old msn, they're using Messenger Plus to manipulate us to upgrade that way. bastards.

hellllllllp

Microsoft and Messenger Plus! Live are two seperate things....Microsoft does not control Messenger Plus! Live and Messenger Plus! Live is certainly not manipulating people to upgrade.

Microsoft are forcing the upgrade because WLM 8.5 is now out of date.  Resisting the upgrade is pointless.....I wouldn't mind betting that 90% of the people kicking up a fuss over being forced to upgrade to 2009 would have also kicked up a fuss over being forced to upgrade to 8.5

You'll soon get used to the new Messenger, many of us have been using it for years with no problems

They will probably force the upgrade ultimately in the same way they always have - by eventually preventing you from logging into the old Messenger

I installed Windows Live Messenger 2009 and it looks so horrible; it is clearly a downgrade from 2008. I then want to uninstall it but it was not in the add and remove programs list so I had to use system restore to uninstall it. It seems as if they are forcing you to keep it once you have installed it.

i'm relieved that i'm not the only one having this problem...
here's a weird thing: i have two operation systems...windows xp x64 and windows7 x64. i use wlm 8.5 with msg plus 4.82 on both OS. the interesting thing is that event viewer works fine on win7, but it doesnt log partners coming online on xp...tried to import my msg plus settings from win7 to xp, but it hasn't fixed the problem.
uninstalled, then reinstalled wlm and plus, still doesn't work...i have no clue what the problem could be...any idea?

I have two computers; one of them is Windows XP and the other Windows Vista. Windows XP does not record any events at all, but Windows Vista records some of them. I hope they release a fix for this soon because it is annoying.

Ok, first of all, as said by djdannyp, there is a big difference between Messenger Plus! and Windows Live Messenger. They are not the same thing...

Second, you need to upgrade because there are various security flaws fixed. Not upgrading often means that you are exposed to certain risks.

Messenger Plus! never ever had the ability to patch Windows Live Messenger (or MSN Messenger for that matter) so that you wouldn't have to upgrade.

Then there is a recent issue with a small protocol change inside Windows Live Messenger where contact sign in events aren't passed properly. That might the reason why you aren't seeing those specific events anymore in Messenger Plus!' event log...

Bottom line: always try to update, for your own good...

;)
