Inconsistent irc-bbcode setting and a new default? - Printable Version

The buttons on the chat window allways seem to use the bbcode tags for formatting but the keyboard shortcuts (ctrl+r for example) use the setting from the preferences dialog.

Also perhaps it's time already to change the default for this to bbcode since I dont see much users using version 3 anymore and bbcode formatting tags are much more comfortable.

I think CTRL-K is for bbcode style tags (Don't quote me on that though)

I always try to put colours in IRC format as people with MP 3.x won't parse the bbcode ones.

Nah, it uses IRC format if it's set so in the preferences. Just tried.

What you mean is that if you use the button in the toolbar to pop up the Format Panel, the buttons on that format panel always use BBCode-style.

While, if you pop up the Format Panel by using they keyboard shortcut CTRL+R, the buttons on the format panel will always use the style selected in the preferences.

That was done on purpose.

I can remember that when the feature was first introduced testers and others indeed requested that it should behave the same way. Patchou then answered it was done on purpose to 'stimulate' the use of BBCode (and to always have BBCode at hand, eventhough you selected IRC-style in the prefs).

Highly depends on what type of user you are and if you like having disturbing [x] in the middle of words, or just small almost invisible characters.

eg, personally I find:
Hello World
more readable than
[u][i]Hello [/i][b]World[/b][/u]
in case Plus! is not installed.
the blocks in the above example show way larger than in Messenger though

Agreed! On most fonts, the blocks are negligibly small or invisible (space like) characters thus not affecting readability, unlike BBCode. Though BBCode is easier to remember, its always easier to simply remember the key strokes and let Plus! do its job :)

Guess its a matter of flavour and taste :P
Although you can just ask your friend if he has plus installed so you dont send him formatting tags that he cant see (or use /ping)
