Why do I keep getting the "You have 1 invitation." notification on MSN? by xTheDreamer on 12-20-2009 at 04:15 PM

This is what I mean by the “You have 1 invitation.” notification: http://i93.photobucket.com/albums/l64/deadsy__x/msn.jpg

I have clicked on it and I’ve ignoredthe invitation but that notification keeps on coming even after I sign out of my MSN. When I sign back in I see that notification and when I click on it there’s no invite. Every time I click on the [x] to close the notification but it just keeps on coming back, even if there is no invite.

So how do I fix this problem? I’ve tried repairing the msn messenger but it still won’t go away. What is going on with it? How do I fix it?

If you sign on using another computer does the invitation still show up?

Perhaps try accessing your Windows Live Profile and see if there's anything on there you can do.

Also search the forums too as it's quite possible that this topic has been raised before

I've tried to sign in using another computer and the invitation doesn't show up over there.

I get the same thing on all the computers.

Go to Windows Live site and there is nothing.

Also found there is nothing that can be done.

I wish A Patch would really work on this new Messenger to clean up a lot of this junk!!!! Like to just delete the window there completely!!!!

If you find anything, let us know!!!!!

I posted about the same problem here.

I'm using a skin to hide it now.

1. Make sure you have no invitations on linked accounts.
2. Uninstall Windows Live Messenger
3. Delete all registry files related to WLM.
4. Install the latest version of WLM.

Worked for me:P

Didn't work for me unfortunately. I do have about 5 linked accounts, but I just went through them all and got rid of the invitations, but it's still there. And I've moved from Windows XP to a clean Windows 7 and it done it on both, so I think it's more likely a bug in the account.

Someone on some other forums contacted support and they said it's a bug in the program and it will be fixed in the next update.

I find this confusing because the number of invites is grabbed from the server is it not?

Evidently not as how OP said that when they sign in on one PC it shows up as having an invitation, but on another it doesn't

The fix to this issue is:

Signout of MSN Messenger and close the MSN Messenger application.

Browse to C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows Live Contacts

Delete the contents of this folder.

Start MSN Messenger and sign in.

Hope this helps.

BTW, you will need to have 'hidden files' shown to browse the above location.

That didn't work I'm afraid, grahamkelly.

Thanks anyway.
