*HELP* Msn Virus by Tensha on 01-26-2010 at 08:34 AM

I was chatting with my friend halfway on msn and suddenly he just paste me this link without typing anything. I thought it would be related to what we were talking to ( Computer Hardware Parts ).

So i went on saving and executing it , nothing appeared. Then i went on asking him what was it , his answer was he didn't send me that link. GG virus. Anyone know how to remove it? Thanks

http://img95.[removed].mn/9767789/imgofb.jpg <-- this is the link with the virus sent.

Cheers,
Tensha

Moderator edit: removed link

DO NOT CLICK THAT LINK!

After clicking link it asks you to download a .pif file
Even if you click 'Cancel' it still infects your computer... :S

REPORTED!

Well remove the link from your post...

You don't post virus's on a public forum, that's how they spread...

Download Microsoft Security Essentials to remove it.

You need to let it scan. Stop using the PC for an hour and it'll do it's job.

WLM no longer lets you send anything with the text '.pif' in it and the link goes to an image. If you visit the link, the browser would expect an image with extension "jpg". If it was a renamed file it would just download it because it couldn't display it. Then, if you do open it, it should fail to open as it's file type is associated with Windows Picture and Fax Viewer (XP) or the Image Viewer (Vista and 7)

Yeah, well it's a jpg which somehow redirects to a .pif :-/

Can someone PM me the link?

RE: *HELP* Msn Virus by Skywolfe on 01-26-2010 at 04:54 PM

your scanner should stop it from going through to begin with if it is any kind of a scanner that is.

What if the virus signature is new? :P
RE: *HELP* Msn Virus by Skywolfe on 01-26-2010 at 04:57 PM

lol that is why they issue updates.. and and if it is "well known" yeah.. it would be blocked.

come to think of it.. I haven't had a link like that come up in messenger since the install of KIS.....

decent antiviruses use heuristics to detect unknown viruses :zippy:
RE: *HELP* Msn Virus by Chrissy on 01-26-2010 at 05:00 PM

Yeah, i know, however not all anti-virus detect all viruses :P I've also seen viruses bypass virus catchers :P
