Odd Sign-In Problem by Majjam on 02-06-2010 at 09:36 PM

Okay. Windows Live was working fine before I had to completely reformat my computer. I downloaded the latest version of Live Messenger and the installation worked fine. When I try to log-in, the animation starts and it seems like it's about to log-in but it doesn't. It stops and then nothing. No error message, no nothing. So I keep pressing the sign-in button, it'll animate like it's logging in for about three seconds before it just stops.

Now here's the really odd part.

Windows Messenger, which was already installed as a factory program for my 32 XP system works. So I thought there was a conflict with the old messenger and windows live. So I completely(Or so I hope) deleted anything that had to do with the old messenger and re-downloaded, installed, and fired up Windows Live and I'm still getting the same problem.

Any ideas?

Does this still happen without Messenger Plus! Live installed?

Do you have any skins/scripts?

Yup. I installed MP!L ..and it still happens.

And no skins or scripts loaded.

Try reading through the following thread:

Can't log in (Eternal spinning buddies)

It lists a lot of different possible solutions to your problem, and as you'll see if you read it to the end, that person ended up solving the problem

No. This doesn't help me because a lot of his steps involves using the trouble shooter. I don't get an error code after the animation spins. It simply just stops and let's me click sign in again, then I click it again, the animation runs, then it stops. Then the cycle continues.

BTW, I'm using Avast Anti-virus professional but not firewall.
