Hey
I have windows vista home premium. I downloaded windows live messenger and I love the messenger but I don't want it to pop up during startup.

Same spammer as yesterday (posted on multiple sites), but I'll answer anyway.
Go to Tools->Options
Click the "Sign-In" tab on the left
Untick "Automatically run Windows Live Messenger when I log on to Windows"
